I lived in Gilbert for 19 years and never saw a SINLGE one.

It wasn't until I went to Kuwait that I got to see one, a big nasty 4 inch black one, that came scurrying out of my boot.

They can be in rare cases to some people. Generally as an adult it will just hurt like hell. If stung you should call poison control. They'll tell you how you should feel, anything else you should go to the emergency room.
Something along the lines of increasing pain for about six hours, then it should die down.
Wow! I thought they'd be bigger then that. That's interesting to know. I'm guessing the sting hurts a lot more than your average bee sting.

Try being stung by a bark scorpion.

Bark scorpions use a potent neurotoxin, that screws with your nervous system big time. Not much pain, but tinkly, itchy sensations throughout your body. Convulsions, swelling of the tongue, increased saliva production, loss of vision, loss of muscular control, and finally breathing problems.

Ended up in the hospital, with what was dubbed by the doctors that worked with me, as the single worst sting that any of them had seen. I was miserable, and would only wish that kind of a reaction on OBL and Saddam Hussein.

I've lived in the valley for 23 years and I've only encountered one scorpion in that time. My wife came out of the shower and almost stepped on it. Boy did she scream!

I have seen lots of Black Widows. I used to get two to three in my garage every year. I seem to have won that battle because I haven't seen any in over a year.

Sounds pretty unpleasant.

I live in the north mesa section of town off of Gilbert Rd right by the 202. After they put the 202 in, I have seen several scorpions in the house.

Fortunately I have two cats, who are natural predators to them. My cat named Mouse will corner it and fight it until I come and kill it.

Cats are highly resistant to scorpion venom. If you live in a scorpion area, get a cat.

Did you see a Camel spider over there? Nastiest insect on the face of the planet, named because it will kill a camel. About 2-3 inches long, HUGE fangs, back end almost looks like a catapillar and about as fast as a rodent. When they get mad they pick the back two pair of legs off the ground and run randomly, looking to bite anything.

I have two!

I heard that a long time ago....I witnessed it firsthand when my sister's cat took out a scorpion, but was stung multiple times. The cat, was barely affected by it....at least cats have some use other than lazying around the house.

Don't camel spiders eat flesh? I heard that they will eat your face if they get you at night....sounded like a myth, but there might be some truth to it.

I have long wondered

If Cats natural enemity with Scorpions is what spawned them being so revered in Egypt. I mean, if you are a primative person and you see a cat kill a scorpion, get stung multiple times, and be just fine...I bet that would seem pretty divine to you.

Dogs

Don't have any special resistance to scorpion venom. However, I am sure he will bark pretty loud at it, letting you know it is there =)
