Is Big Brother on the Horizon?

DNA samples sought for everyone arrested:

To me, this is scary. I do not want the government to have all of this information.

What is the difference between having a DNA means of identifying a repeat criminal and having a set of fingerprints? DNA is more accurate. If you don't want the government to have your DNA -- don't break the law.

I'd have to agree with that. If you don't want them to have your DNA, don't break the law.

They want to take DNA from everyone ARRESTED. Big difference.

Of course, we all know only guilty people get arrested.

Should read "Don't get accused of breaking the law".

Don't they also take fingerprints of everyone ARRESTED? The only difference is that DNA is a more accurate means of identifying habitual criminals and also a more accurate means of clearing innocent people who are accused of crimes.

If you are comfortable with a National DNA database (cause this is where this is heading, step by step), then fine. I am not.
The technology, and the FBI's bungling of it gives me cause for concern.

Well, maybe you can tell me the difference between a National DNA database for criminals and a National Fingerprint database for criminals?

Technology for one - the lab work that is needed to get the DNA correct is a lot more than fingerprinting. Too many errors so far.

DNA will never be the only piece of evidence looked at when determining who is guilty of a crime. The OJ Simpson trial revealed that. Cataloging the DNA of people arrested, like fingerprints is another piece of evidence in helping the government maintain law and order in our society as they help protect those who do not break the law.

And I ask the question one more time, What's the difference between having one's DNA on record and one's fingerprints?

SirStephan and I rarely agree on anything. But in this case, you need to understand Stephan's background - born and raised under a brutal dictatorship that did keep track of everyone, and used data to repress everyone.

How is DNA different that Fingerprints?

Well,

I can't discriminate against you based on your fingerprints.

I certainly can based on your genetic code.

I can't clone you based on your fingerprints

In the future I might be able to based on your genetic code.

I can't make a psychological profile of you based on your fingerprints.

I can using your genetic code.

Those are just off of the top of my head.

You have one of those right Strong Bad? Think for yourself...it's refreshing.

Chris you conmtinue to show yourself as an ass. If you really think that the governement wanted your DNA to make clones of you they could get many other ways without your knowledge. Although because you insist on being an ass in every thread I do not see the purpose of conversing with you anymore. What was it the fine christian Chandler Mike said? "Can't we just be civil?"
