If the war was not about oil - then why

where the only two things the U.S. troops secured from the start where the oil fields and the Ministry of Oil buildings?

Well, it's so the Iraqis will have an economy when the war is over.

If we had let Saddam destroy them all, then the #1 export for the country would be gone, and they'd lose their biggest money maker.

Makes sense to me.

Protecting the Oil Fields yes, that does make sense, but why was the Ministry of Oil buildings in Baghdad the only ones we prevented from being looted?

Maybe some shady Haliburton dealings while Cheney was CEO?

Heck, if they wanted to cover something up...the best way actually would have been to let the Iraqis loot the aforementioned buildings.

You mean like they did all the buildings with documents relating to WOMD?

They couldn't take that chance - who knows what a looter could earn selling them to the wrong "party".
