Protecting the Oil Fields yes, that does make sense, but why was the Ministry of Oil buildings in Baghdad the only ones we prevented from being looted?
Maybe some shady Haliburton dealings while Cheney was CEO?

Heck, if they wanted to cover something up...the best way actually would have been to let the Iraqis loot the aforementioned buildings.

You mean like they did all the buildings with documents relating to WOMD?
They couldn't take that chance - who knows what a looter could earn selling them to the wrong "party".
