I grew some tomatoes in my backyard.

There all green right now. Is there really fried green tomatoes?

Are they good? Any recipes? I am ready to eat the damn things raw and green.

I heard tomatoes where difficult to grow but my plant went crazy on accident.

I also grew a bunch of hot peppers. I eat them right off the plant.

must have some actual GOOD dirt. Tomatoes not hard to grow round here. Let 'em ripen - you'll hardly be able to eat store bought again....

There are such a thing as ripe green tomatoes, for sure, but if you planted red tomatoes, let em ripen. The sugars havent developed in them yet, and they will be tough and bitter.

Patience.

My tomato plant lives on the back deck of my third floor walkup. The tomatoes aren't that big, but they are delicious. Please please please tomato plant keep yield tomatoes until the end of the summer. My basil plants are also doing quite well. They aren't as fragile as tomatoes.

Why I forgot to plant jalepenos, I know not.

I always loved the fact that KoC was into gardening! I always thought us Italians cornered that market...

By the way Mulli, I'll be replanting my tomato crop in just over a month... I'll also re-load on peppers (various Bell varieties, and some not-so mild types...).
I still have bushels of basil left over from my winter/spring harvest. And of course, I have rosemary that simply refuses to die!!!!

I planted two Rosemary bushes and the things are reapidly approaching 3ft tall. I think my wife is starting to get sick of rosemary dishes.

Man, I so want homegrown tomatoes, but I can't get my dad to drive 5 miles to my house to show me how he does it. He grows monster tomatoes, red and yellow. Makes for killer pico de gallo.

You have to be sure to pinch off all the little suckers so that the plant spends its energy reproducing and not just growing more leaves.

What do you pinch off to not get more leaves?

Here's a pic:

Man, I miss growing tomatoes. There is nothing like a tomato that you can take off the plant with the slightest touch. Soooooooo good!

My tomato plant is in for a pruning. Unless I chicken out to keep from losing the juicy tomatoes it is producing.
