How paranoid/cautious are you in regards to your personal safety? I mean, do lock your car doors even when the vehicle is in your garage? Do you leave your house windows open when no one is home? Do you lock your front door as soon as you walk in?
I ask because I am trying to gauge how paranoid/cautious I am. I'm cool with traveling alone and, apparently, driving across the US by myself. But I am not cool with leaving the windows in my first floor apartment open overnight (which sucks cause I really want to do that tonight) and I always lock the front door as soon as I get into my place. Perhaps I watch too much American Justice and Cold Case Files on A&E.
So, please share you stories.

I've driven across country by myself, too, and I always lock my car doors/front doors/bedroom doors.
Thankfully I am on the second floor so I am able to open my window with no worry, however, I would never do it if I was on the first floor.

I.D. badges are long overdue. Security in this office park is a joke. Last year, I came to work with my spud gun in a duffel bag. I sat at my desk all day, with a rifle that shoots potatoes at 60 pounds per square inch. Can you imagine if I was deranged? - Dwight K. Schrute
I'm certainly a lot more cautious now after my house was broken into last week. To the point that I had an ADT security system installed.
I don't know if cautious is really the right word, maybe conscientious would be more appropiate.
If I lived in an apartment I would absolutely always keep my door locked. I know I have mistakenly walked into the wrong apartment in the past.
IMHO, it comes down to minimizing the opportunity you present to the bad guys. If you give them the opening, you know they are going to take it.
As far as paranoia goes? I can't live my live that way.
Im not comfortable with this thread in so many ways.. I sometimes think paranioa runs my life.. Its something Ive been trying to get over.. It also prolly explains why Ive always had knives stashed around my house just in case or why I go outside in the middle of the nite for no reason.. Alwys looking to see if someone is looking for me.. Im hesitant in saying this what Im about to say cuz it will just perpetuate some of the posters beliefs on here of me.. But I didnt grew up in a great neighborhood, always looking over my shoulder.. Not drinking as much helps.. Not on edge as much anymore...

Well, paranoia has the potential to ruin a person's life. I'm not so paranoid that I have weapons stashed, but I do lock everything all the time.
I sometimes wonder if there is anyone I pissed off so bad that I am on someone's Happy Gilmore (or was it Billy Madison) list. I don't think so, but who knows?

Eh. I have woken up plenty of times to discover that my front door wasn't locked, or I left windows open. I'm really not worried about a late night home invasion. I KNOW I sound horribly irresponsible right now. I generally try to remember to make sure the doors are all locked, but I'm not SO concerned about it that I can't sleep if I don't remember having done it.
The car, on the other hand...I always lock the doors.

My brother has told me in the past that home invasions are almost never random.....Shane, care to weigh in on this?
