ADOT, the City of Scottsdale and the State of Arizona continue to insist that they cannot afford greater safety measures, such as more patrolmen to curb speeders and wreckless drivers, along the 101.
Why would they want to curb wreckless drivers? Those are the ones you want. Now Reckless drivers, that is another story.

It would be nice to see statistics that show fatalities on other freeways as well. Without that information, it's just a plea to our emotions.

The one thing I'm wondering is how the victims got into these accidents. It's tragic that they died, but were the accidents their fault?

Great point.

One of the stories on the 101 site is about a married couple and how they were killed when their car careened through the wire cables in the median which are "supposedly designed to prevent vehicles from crossing into oncoming traffic."

Another was killed in a head-on collision, but it does not specify who was at fault, etc.

I believe this is just people who have lost loved ones getting emotional over it. I'm sure that you could put websites up for every freeway in America.

On the news, officials said that the number of fatalities on the 101 was not out of line statistically with other freeways.

Also - 2 or 3 of the fatalities took place in an accident where the victims ended up in a canal near the crash scene involving a couple of other vehicles. It was pitch black in the canal, which was set apart from the freeway quite a distance, and authorities did not find the vehicle and the victims until 6 hours later. Had they discovered that crash scene earlier, the people involved might have lived.
