Hot Wheels: The rebirth of the muscle car?

The new Dodge Challenger

The new Chevrolet Camaro

These cars are AWESOME looking! Performance machines are pushing econo-boxes out of the way! The long overdue resurgence of performance vehicles is finally here!

The 80's made us long for the 60's and 70's. The 90's allowed us to move past the crap we had in the 80's. The 00's are making us forget about all the crap we've had for nearly the past 30 years....

The Camaro concept shown Monday draws inspiration from the early Camaros, but is updated with a modern 400-horsepower, V-8 engine and sleek look that GM hopes will appeal to young drivers and Camaro enthusiasts alike.
Close enough?

BTW, it's good to see Detroit producing vehicles that customers actually seem to want.

Man, how I remember the throaty growl of a large V8 with a couple of 4 barrel Weber's sitting on the engine and a set of straight through glasspacks.

If it had a souped up cam, it would lope and the whole car would shake.

Compared to today's vehicles, a whole lot of noise, but not near the speed off the line. Top end was a whole different ballgame.

That camaro is sweet looking. I assume it gets great gas mileage too?

Ahh that brings back the memories driving my 88 Mustang 5.0, that was fun, especially after I turned 25 and my insurance went from 150 a month to 50 a month overnight.

I would buy one of those Challengers in a heartbeat! Here is a 1970 Challenger for comparison:

The camaro looks great. Now just make that car, with the same amount of power, and make it fuel efficient (or even better yet, not fuel based)....wow. That would be an amazing car.

Arthur, if you have to worry about fuel consumption in a muscle car, you do not need to get one. They are mean, loud, fast and gas hogs cause you always have your foot in the carburator.

Yeah, and maybe it could have laser beams in the headlights and spikes that come out of the hub so you could slash your competitors' tires in a race and some oil slick that can be released out of the back and a smoke screen cannister back there, too, and tiger claws that come out of the tires to give you better traction and....
