Help with Garage door opener

So like I was cleaning out my garage and after I swept all the dirt I sprayed the place out with water. Somehow I messed up one of those sensor doo-hickies that won't let you shut your garage door if there is something in the way.

Now the thing opens up fine with the remotes and with the switch in the garage...but I can't close it with the remotes and the only way it will shut is the hold down the button that is on the garage wall.

My question is: Can I disable the sensor doo-hickeys? If so, how do I do it? I have a Genie Intellimatic (or something like that)

You can't fix it. It's permanently ruined.
I suggest you go buy another garage door opener. You may have to purchase a new garage door as well.

If the above suggestion does not work, by all means do NOT disconnect the sensor and check to see if it's wet and dry it out.

Your best option if replacing the opener and sensor does not work is to move. Avoid showing the prospective buyers your garage.

You can replace the sensors. The door will not operate properly with them disconnected. I am quite surprised you can close it just by the wall, they are for protection. They are supposed to make sure that nothing is in the way of the door as it closes. If they are disconnected, it should not close at all.... just check around, you should be able to pick up the sensors at Lowes or Home Depot pretty cheap.

I found that at different times of the year at certain times of day, the sun will actually disrupt the light sensor.

We had to stand near the sensor and "give it shade" in order to make it work properly.

If this still continues @ night, then it is the sensor. Your home is pretty new - it still may be under warranty. Sometimes you may get up to a five year warranty on those. Check you paper work when you got into the home.

If not, go to Lowes or call Cookson Door Sales & describe the problem. they may be able to walk you through the problem.

Yer sensor is misaligned.

You'll have to adjust one of them so its level with the other sensor. The lights on the sensor should turn from red to yellow to green.

Even if its green - still try to adjust it....or just close yer garage door after the sun goes down...

You shouldn't have to replace anything.

p.s. try cleaning the sensors - maybe the water left some residual stuff...

That'll teach you to use a finite resource like water in AZ for something as trivial as spraying out your garage.

Suckah.

Don't think it's your sensors

I wash out my garage frequently and have never had a problem with my Genie Accellerator.

Like previous posts, bright light plays havoc and also the mis-alignment will cause you problems. Line em up like the manual sez.

I did, however, have my opener "brain" burn out. But, a quick call to genie and a 5 dollar check got that fixed.

Call the Genie suppor 1-800 number.

Come on guys dont you read the instruction manual when installing these things! You are supposed to put the red sensor on the side of the garage that gets the least sunshine!

Oh and holding the button to close the door is an override feature on most units...you have to manually hold the button down until the door is closed.

Fixing, as in, she gets outside-and-eats-cat-poop-and-birds-then-comes-into-the-house-and-pukes-all-over-the-floor fixing!

LOL - she is already "fixed" in the other context.
