Taking the wife and daughter to San Dog for a 3-day weekend at the end of this month. We will be going to one of Sea World or the zoo, one of the Navy base or the Marine base (I am former Navy) and one day will be reserved for tooling around the city and hitting the beach (Wind And Sea Beach at La Jolla Cove is like no other)....
What I need help with is where to get good rates for hotels based on personal experience, help with finding a convertible rental at a good rate, and any information on finding good discounts on admission to the zoo or Sea World. Also, if you have any good ideas for restaurants, float them my way....
Thanks in advance....

Just came back from San Diego 3 weeks ago. We stayed at the Mission Valley Sheraton and got great rates at Expedia.
My favorite restaurant is easily Anthonys Fish Grotto down by the bay. Casual, decent prices, really good food. If you want more expensive and really good try Albies. Really classic. Pricey but worth it!
We rented a conertible as well from Hertz. Dunno what we payed for it the wife sprung for that.

LOL! You just had my vacation!
I'm wondering if we shouldn't hit Sea World this time. I love SW and all, but I love San Diego a whole lot more. There's so much to see and do in the city. There are museums, there's Old Towne, there's the Gaslamp Quarter, there's military bases, there's beaches galore, there's that boardwalk area with all the retail (name escapes me), there's just so much cool stuff to do. Gimme ideas, guys....
BTW, my daughter is 6.5 years old, so keep her in mind....

We also toured the USS Midway. It was awesome. It is now a museum full time and the cost is only 13.00 for an adult. It took us 4 hours to tour it and was worth every penny. I think your daughter might like it too(probably around $8.00).
I would do Sea World over the Zoo but JMHO!

Also dont forget to take your daughter to Seaport Village and get her an Ice Cream at Swenson's and put her on the HUGE Merry Go Round down there. Perfect for a 6 year old!

Acqua near the cave at La Jolla Cove is pricey but excellent. Brockton Villa (sp?) near there is great for breakfast.
SOH, do you have triple-A? I like them for the roadside help but they also always have discounts for a bunch of hotels and tourist attractions like Sea World and San Diego Zoo.
If you go to Sea World's web site you can save 10% by buying tickets in advance. San Diego Zoo gives you a discount from buying online but not as good as the AAA.
The Hotel Del Coronado recommeded the Hash House (next to Balboa Park).
My wife and I were unsure of the place (weird name) until we stepped inside. The food is fantastic. Reasonable prices too! We can't wait to go back.

SEAPORT VILLAGE!!!
That's what I was thinking of (the "boardwalk" referrence in original post)....
jw7:
No, but maybe I'll go enroll tomorrow and cancel when I come back....
Toro:
No, but I'll check into that, too....
BTW, gimme a bit of a rundown on Hash House. I'll check that out when I'm there....
Yeah, I ate at this one Mexican joint in Old Town. It was an old, pueblo-looking place. It was so crowded and festive. All the restaurants in that area had LOOOOONG lines to get in, but even waiting in line for 45 minutes was fun! I don't remember the name of the place, but I want to say that it had an atrium setup in the center and it was a large restaurant. The waiters and waitresses dressed in traditional Mexican clothing. The food was AMAZING!
