I am with Cingular and am eligible for an upgrade this month. Does anyone know how this works as far as process and possible phones? Do I have to sign another contract? Is it a rebate thing? Can I only upgrade to certain phones? My current phone is beat up and I have been looking forward to upgrading.

My brother in-law suggested that I buy a phone on ebay and just switch my sim card out. Will this work? He thinks it will be cheaper and save me another two year contract.

I have my eye on the new pantech phone. Thanks for the info in advance.

They'll make you sign a new contract but you can get just about any phone you want for free.... maybe even the razor

Yes, on Cingular and T-Mobile you can just buy a phone and switch out the SIM card. Either buy a branded phone for your carrier or get an 'unlocked' phone.

Usually if you get a phone from the carrier you renew your contract for at least a year.
