I have a friend that lives right off of Carefree Hwy. She just called me and told me that there's a new brush fire that JUST started up just on the other side of the hwy!!!! Ash was falling on her while she stood in her front yard on the phone with me! HOLY COW! I hope the firefighters can contain this before it gets worse!!!!!!!!

TRAFFIC ALERT: Brush fire closes I-17: Interstate 17 near the Carefree Highway is closed due to a large brush fire, according to the Department of Public Safety. Al Silva with the Phoenix Fire Department said the fire has burned about 30 acres and is not threatening any structures. DPS is advising motorists to stay away from the area.
