Anyone know how to fix a washing machine?

I have an issue that I'm trying to track down. Our washing machine no long uses cold water at the beginning of the wash cycle. The hot is still working fine, and if I go for warm only hot water comes out. However, during the rinse cycle, the cold water comes out fine.

I think it has something to do with the switch assembly itself. For some reason (wear & tear?) the switch isn't opening the circuit to release the flow of cold water during the beginning or the wash cycle.

There's nothing really online about this issue, only general tips and offers to pay someone to give you an opinion.

Anyone out there have any expertise in this realm that can offer some help?

Let me start with the stupid question; are you sure the cold water connection to the wall is functioning properly?

Have you tried reversing the hot and cold water connections? (admittedly no little about washers)

disregard post after what is posted below.

Yes, the cold water connection is free of obstruction and working properly.

Sounds like you have to replace the switch.... They're not that expensive. if you have a Sears brand (like Kenmore) they'll order the part in for you.

I did this a couple of years ago for my parents, but when I tried to do it to mine I jacked it up

I hope it's not the timer, those things can get expensive!

my washing machine decided, the other day, that it wasn't going to stop filling. I walked out to my garage before work and was standing in 2 inches of water. My garage is packed full of stuff so I had to empty everything onto the patio in the backyard and the driveway. I haven't had time to look at it and/or have someone fix it yet. I am running out of clean clothes since I was already backed up on laundry patrol. Stupid machines.

I like Ranchero Sauce. I don't even know where a laundromat is around me. I have some searching to do. maybe I can find one that isn't busy and do all my clothes at once. Twould be saweet! I haven't been to a laundromat since I was an attendant at one in Flagstaff while in college. Interesting things take place at the laundromat.

washing machine broken? - did you try buying her flowers, letting her rub you feet, giving her the honor of making you dinner and grabbing you a beer?!?
