There was a dude from China who shot his professor at the University of Iowa about 15 years ago because he didn't make honors then he blew away 4 other people and then killed himself. I remember this because my friends mom worked there at the time

Just because he didnt make honors? Holy crap.. I dont know if this is a stereotype or even a bad thing because it makes asians look smart, but damn, i knew asians spend alot of time on classwork and are always at the top of the academic list, but thats just insane.. Over honors?

The suicide rate among students in Japan is outrageous. They hold a lot of stock in how well they do in school. I was always happy with C's.
Prior to discovering ASFN (and before I switched my allegiances from all the Detroit to Phoenix sports team), I used to post on http://www.motownsports.com . I remember how one of the regular posters on there, estrepe1, was attending VT. I had been thinking of checking onto that site all day to see whether or not estrepe1 was among the fatalities. I had been fearing that all day and didn't want to log-on (I guess delaying the inevitable).
Well, I decided to check that site for the first time in quite awhile to have my fears confirmed.... Here's the thread that the extremely devastating news was posted:
I'm extremely shocked and deeply saddened. I hadn't posted on there in ages, but back in the day him and I had some of the most stimulating discussions.. He was very intelligent and resourceful.... He will definitely be missed..... RIP Brian "estrepe1" Bluhm....

I am not directly affected by the incident but I made sure to check in with the one person I knew that had connections at Virginia Tech and he said he doesn't know of anyone who was hurt or killed, so that's good news.
But having been out of college only a year I find it so hard to believe something like this could happen. Like, I'd walk around campus, go to class, whatever; nobody ever imagined this could happen. And my school (UofA) had a shooting my freshman year. But still, I always felt safe.
My thoughts and prayers go out to all affected by this tragedy. Such a horrible and senseless act.
