What book have you read (obscure or mainstream, doesn't matter) that you think would be awesome on the big screen if done by the right people? If you can think of it, name your dream cast/crew.
Also, if a book was absolutely butchered for the bigscreen, which ones should be redone the right way?
Book I think would be excellent on the big screen in the hands of somebody who had a love for the book is "Ender's Game" by Orson Scott Card. One of my alltime favorite books. I must've read it about thirty times in high school. Would have to be an epic but it could be done.
Runner up, "Bag of Bones" by Stephen King. One of my favorite books and one I actually hope to be able to adapt myself.
Also, "Point of Impact" by (can't think of author right now). Just a great action/espionage thriller with a wiseass redneck as the central protagonist.

Point of Impact, Stephen Hunter (I've read em all!) only it's bound to be ruined. They're thinking of making it a sequel to Tommy Lee Jones' The Hunted. UGH

Based upon Orson Scott Card's Hugo and Nebula Award-winning novel, Ender's Game takes a futuristic look at Earth just 40 years after the planet had staved off an alien invasion. In order to prepare for the next inevitable attack, prodigy children are recruited and trained by the military. Andrew "Ender" Wiggin emerged as earth's best hope to lead the next battle. However, he begins to question the morality of his cause.
As of May 2002, Wolfgang Petersen is attached to direct the film, which will combine the points of view of Ender's Game as well as of its companion novel Ender's Shadow.

Stephen King's novel Bag of Bones will become a horror film from MGM. The King story follows a middle-aged writer who moves to his lakeside cottage to investigate his wife's death. Upon arrival, he finds the place full of weird and scary happenings. Peter Care will direct from an adaptation by David Velos.

Based on the book, "Point of Impact" by Washington Post film critic Stephen Hunter, Shooter is the story about an expert sniper, who comes out of his self-imposed exile to stop an assasin, only to end up accused of murder. Tommy Lee Jones is attached to star in the lead role of the "sniper hero" which had attracted the attention of Keanu Reeves and Brad Pitt.
Jones was looking to film Shooter with director William Friedkin, but they choose to shoot The Hunted instead. Though completely unrelated, Shooter may well serve as the sequel to The Hunted.

I enjoyed "Enders Game" cool idea for a movie.
"Bag of Bones" sucked. Sorry, just my opinion but I've read almost every King book out there and he has really slided in his last few books.
Like I posted in the book thread "Replay" by Ken Grimwood is the best book out there. Supposedly there was a deal struck for a movie but nothing has come of it so far.
I know Salinger is a bit off-center but I think "Catcher In The Rye" would make an interesting movie if he could be convinced to sell the rigths to it.
Apparently the book started off as a play that he was writing because he wanted to act in it - then it became a novel.

Tommy Lee Jones would make a great Bob Swagger. I'm guessing Pitt/Reeves would want to play the FBI agent that works with him.

I agree that Tommy Lee Jones would make a good Bob Lee Swagger, but I don't like the idea of trying to tie this movie into The Hunted.

All the books with Bob Lee are great. Stephen Hunter does a great job of going back and telling what happened years earlier as well.

The first movie just sucks..
However Verhoven did redeem himself a little with the animated series...
Starship Troopers is one of the few movies that really bothers me to this day - just the thought of what those giant insects did to the humans still gives me the occasional nightmare (let alone the totalitarian society on earth!!!)

So I take it "Aliens" probably doesn't do it for ya either??
