it's pretty simple - there aren't a lot of movies out there marketing towards the African American audience, and even less that aren't about gangs and violence. If you look at the numbers, something like 90% of the audience from his films are African Americans. I don't enjoy his films, but I can see why that portion of the population would like to see something resembling normal life in their communities.
