The Eye

This is playing at the Madstone Theaters in Chandler. Very good horror movie from Asia (I believe it's Hong Kong but not sure). It is subtitled, and the subtitles are in white so anytime the bottom of the screen is in white you can't make out what's going on but if you're a fan of horror films and enjoy foreign cinema, check this out.

The story revolves around a blind woman who gets a transplant. Now that she can see, the only problem is that she can see dead people as well. She befriends an eye doctor and together they try and discover how this is possible.

The scares are plentiful and the mood throughout generally has you unnerved. The story drags a little bit in the middle and it hiccups at the end but the positives far outweigh the negatives. Saying that this is like The Sixth Sense is like saying Kool Aid tastes like After Shock.

**** out of *****

P.S. - if you'd rather wait for Hollywood's rendition, Tom Cruise got a hold of rights to a remake on this bad boy.

Just watched it. I thought it was pretty good. I was expecting something much scarier, not sure why. It was very creepy though.

The beginning (the operation for a blind girl to see again) and the end of the film are based on true stories the Pang brothers read about in the news.
