Psycho was a little different. Hitchcock wasn't involved in the remake and Anthony Perkins and Janet Leigh didn't star in it.

You're right, it is probably a money-grab, but I bet some of it is just that they want to return to the world they created--kinda like nostalgia. If you read Bruce's autobiography, you could tell that he's usually pretty genuine, and there really is no reason to think this time is any different.

I've read that Campbell is producing, but is he actually going to be in it, or will another actor... be Ash?

I suppose it's possible, but I think it's pretty unlikely that Bruce WON'T be Ash.

Chap, you have your own opinions on these eeeeeenless remakes, but of course, everyone knows mine. Still, I'll rehash.

1-Probably a shameless money grab.

2-Idiotic idea---why remake a cult classic?

3-If you want to revisit the world, just make another frickin' movie already!!!

4-Idiotic idea.

Many more reasons, but I have a headache, and this just made it bigger. Peace out.

If it's a remake, won't they try and cast actors that fit the story? Ash wouldn't be 24 years older than he was in the original...

Online rumors for the "new" Ash: Sean William Scott (Dude, Where's My Car?, The Rundown), Nicholas Brendan (Buffy the Vampire Slayer's Xander), and Justin Theroux (Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle, Mulholland Drive)...

NOOOOOOO! It will be very hard for me to come to terms with the idea of someone else playing Ash. I don't like to say that I hate the idea but i can't say I like it.

If anything they should just make another sequel and not a remake. That way Bruce can star in it. Sam SHOULD direct and write it. Sigh. Why? Why? Why a remake?

The fact of the matter is, it's Sam Raimi's property, he's doing what he wants with it--that's a little different than the normal remake you consistently complain about.

Absolutely, he has the right to do so. That doesn't make it any more of a good idea, in my eyes, and it doesn't make it any different than the endless line of retreads you come on here and defend to the bone. Will you be catching the new Longest Yard, complete with Adam Sandler? Yeah, have fun with that

Sorry about the above, I didn't mean to make it as mean as it sounded.

Regarding this post, however, I do NOT want to see Longest Yard, but not because of Adam Sandler, it's because of Chris Rock, who I don't like at all.

Nah, it's all good...I put the smilie there to make sure of it. I just can't see Sandler being a former star QB...sorry! I like Chris Rock, though, and as it doesn't seem as if they're passing him off as a player, he'll probably be good. I just think the movie as a whole, though, will be...well, a really bad remake. Lol

Bruce Campbell won't be Ash says Rob Tapert
Source: Now Playing Magazine
February 2, 2005

Rob Tapert has confirmed with Now Playing that Campbell will not be appearing as Ash, the idiot-hero of the original films.

"Yes," Tapert says when asked if the nouveau Dead will be recast, "because it will be off of the original movie. It's five kids go to a cabin, but it's not a continuation of the existing Evil Dead backstory."

"[We're] talking to various filmmakers about their possible interest, and it's still in the germination stage," says Tapert. "There are people who we would like to give a chance to create their own vision as to what Evil Dead is, so we're kind of hearing what other people's take might be and moving forward along those lines."

Well, this actually doesn't sound like a remake as much as it is just a new movie set in the same world. Unfortunately, it sounds like a "Blair Witch 2" project--but it'll have to be pretty bad to match that disaster.
