Actually he has stated that several times now. I am OK with that. No actor that follows Heath will ever be given any chance. It's better to let it go.
What I find even more interesting is that Nolan said that this will be the end of this trilogy or version of Batman and he expects that when someone takes it over it will NOT be based on his version of the story or Batman.
Which is a shame because he set the bar so high.

it might be a shame for the Batman franchise because we'll probably not see another version of it that compares to what Nolan has done, but I'm incredibly excited to see WHAT ELSE Noland can do. I'm not the biggest fan of Insomnia, but every other film he's made has been very good (The Prestige/Batman Begins) or just a flat out classic (Dark Knight/Memento/Inception).
He's gone on record as saying he'd LOVE to do a Bond movie and has since he's been a kid. I have to believe it would be SICK. A schedule of one more Batman, one more original movie ala Inception and a Bond movie for Noland would make me happier than a pig in slop.
All this talk of JJ Abrams as the "next" Spielberg is a joke. Look no further than Nolan. The guy can do no wrong at this point IMO.

I disagree with you to an extent. First off I think JJ Abrams is brilliant. When I see the side of Spielberg that does Sci fi, other fiction like Jurassic Park, alien stuff or action stuff, I certainly see some of the same traits in JJ Abrams. I think Nolan is a better story teller but Abrams knows how to weave a story together.
Having said that, I don't see Abrams for instance doing story telling like Schindler's list. I could see Nolan doing something like that.

Flip it, Prestige/Batman Begins were classic, Dark Knight/Memento/Inception were very good.

I've avoided saying this because of all the love for Nolan here but am I the only one tired of paying to see something that can't be seen? Everytime I watch his movies (even with blu-ray and a 1080p big screen) I feel like I'm at the drive-in. I like his movies but he uses darkness like oxygen.

I think it works for Batman. I wouldn't want a dark Superman movie, though.

agreed, although I really didn't like the orange-brown-black template he used in Batman Begins. I think he struck the perfect chord with the look of The Dark Knight... crisp blues, blacks and greens. loved it.

Main pieces of info:
-Film is now known as 'The Dark Knight Rises'
-The Riddler is not the villian
-Nolan convinced the studio to let him shoot with IMAX rather than 3D (thankfully).

This will also be end of this "continuum" as well. Nolan has stated that if the studios continue the franchise it won't be based on his version.

this is off-topic, but Nolan also said he's changing Superman's theme music... booo!!!!
I love Nolan's stuff and think he's this generations popcorn movie making extraordinare, but you don't tug on Superman's cape and you DON'T CHANGE THE GREATEST SCORE EVER (or at least heroic score ever). That's some hubris on you Nolan. That score better be DISGUSTINGLY good.
