The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian

Director & Kids Return for Narnia Sequel
Source: Walden.com
January 6, 2006

A representative of Walden Media, which produced the Disney release The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, has revealed on the company's message board the unconfirmed news that director Andrew Adamson and the four children - Georgie Henley, Skandar Keynes, William Moseley and Anna Popplewell - have signed on again for The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian.

In "Prince Caspian," troubled times have come to Narnia as it is gripped by civil war. Prince Caspian is forced to blow The Great Horn of Narnia, summoning the help of past heroes, Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy. Now they must overthrow Caspian's uncle, King Miraz, to restore peace to Narnia.

The first film, budgeted at $180 million, has already earned $456.5 million worldwide.

Adamson Returns for Prince Caspian
Source: The Hollywood Reporter
February 2, 2006

Walt Disney Pictures and Walden Media are moving ahead with a sequel to the wildly successful The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, which has earned a massive $637.8 million worldwide.

The Hollywood Reporter says Andrew Adamson is set to return to the director's chair, having just signed a deal to helm The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. Adamson also will serve as a producer and co-writer, collaborating with returning screenwriters Christopher Markus and Steve McFeeley. The principal cast is coming back, as is producer Mark Johnson.

A screenplay is not yet written, but production is scheduled to begin this year with an eye toward a Christmas 2007 release.

"Prince Caspian" finds the four Pevensie siblings pulled back into the land of Narnia, where 1,000 years have passed since they left. The children are again enlisted to join the colorful creatures of Narnia, who have been driven into the wild, unfriendly parts of the land. The Pevensies must struggle to overthrow a usurping king named Miraz and restore the rightful heir to the throne, the young Prince Caspian.

"Prince Caspian," published in 1951, is the second book in the seven-book series written by C.S. Lewis.

Adamson also is on board DreamWorks' Shrek 3, the computer-animated franchise on which he got his start as a feature film director. Adamson will executive produce Shrek 3, and he has been involved with developing the story and will supervise voice talent recording sessions, while Chris Miller and Raman Hui will co-direct.

Pushed back...

Prince Caspian Pushed Back to Summer '08
Source: The Hollywood Reporter, BVHE
May 17, 2006

Walt Disney Pictures' follow-up to Andrew Adamson's blockbuster The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe has been pushed back from December 14, 2007 to summer 2008.

The Hollywood Reporter says Disney rescheduled The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian hours after Columbia Pictures circulated an announcement Tuesday staking a claim on December 8, 2007 for the domestic release of its new fantasy fable The Water Horse. Both sweeping epics are produced by Walden Media and when left to open one week apart were perfectly poised to cannibalize one another's 2007 Christmas box office.

In related news, Buena Vista Home Entertainment (BVHE) announced today that "The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe" has become the number one top-selling DVD of 2006. The film was released on April 5 and has sold over 11 million units in route to claiming this year's top DVD spot.

"We are delighted with the tremendous success of 'The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.' This award-winning film is a stellar addition to the celebrated Disney collection and has set the tone for the next chapter in this promising franchise," commented Bob Chapek, president of BVHE.

Concurrently, with Narnia in the top DVD spot of 2006, BVHE holds five of the top 10 titles so far this year. The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, Chicken Little, Lady and the Tramp, Flightplan, and Bambi II are all strongly positioned within the top 10 titles of 2006. "We are very fortunate to have such a strong line up of titles that appeals to every demographic. It is the backbone of what this studio has always been known for," Chapek added.

I have not read the books or seen the first one. My question is, are these more Harry Potterish or Lord of the Ringsish?

It is more adventure like LotR, but not so much in a common goal tying the series together. Each book kind of stands on its own other than the repeat of the kids and Aslan. Not as much "evil death" as in LotR either, if I remember correctly.

Decent movie. Not a lot of character development, which I thought was too bad. But it was good family entertainment and "escape" for 2:40.

Saw it at West gate as well. I thought it was Fantastic Good fun. Much more sword play type action then the first. My fear that the Caspian actor was going to be a bad pretty boy actor was sort of squashed. He was decent.
