In the near future, the same thing will happen with regular DVDs. HD-DVDs and Blu Ray disks (the two are in competition) will be taking over as the new media format soon enough

Yeah really but nothing really to worry about. Both the HD-DVD and Blu Ray players are ALLEGEDLY able to play regular DVDs. In saying that though, you know that there will be marketing to get those exact same DVDs ... movies, TV shows, etc on the NEW and IMPROVED technology.

We live in a world which is full of misery and ignorance, and the plain duty of each and all of us is to try to make the little corner he can influence somewhat less miserable and somewhat less ignorant than it was before he entered it.
If the dvd format goes the way of vhs we will need a suicide watch on chaplin.
It will be at least 10 years before regular DVDs will "disappear", and even then, all the HD and blu-ray players will play regular DVDs. Besides, there's a possibility that neither one will really survive, at least in the near future, because nobody is going to buy seperate players for each format. It's beta vs. VHS all over again.
