Radha Mitchell (Finding Neverland, Melinda and Melinda) will topline the video game adaptation Silent Hill for TriStar Pictures.

Principal photography is due to begin Monday in Toronto on the suspense horror feature, directed by Christophe Gans (Brotherhood of the Wolf), and will run through July 22. The movie is budgeted at $45 million-$50 million, with additional casting to be finalized.

Silent Hill is based on the Konami game in which Rose (Mitchell) desperately searches for her lost daughter in the mysterious, terrifying town of Silent Hill, where they are trapped.

The screenplay was written by Roger Avary (The Rules of Attraction). The film is produced by Samuel Hadida, who co-produced both "Resident Evil" films and has a third installment in the works at Sonys' Screen Gems and Constantin. Hadida is also preparing to take on an adaptation of Capcom's Onimusha.

Silent Hill is a Franco-Canadian co-production from Hadida and Don Carmody (Chicago). Hadida's brother Victor and Andrew Mason ("The Matrix" trilogy) are executive producers.

Fans of the video game should know that this is very good hands as far as having a competent filmmaker (even though I didn't care for Brotherhood of the Wolf, it was a very visually appealing and well made film) and people who care about the video games (read Roger Avary's online blog to see how much he tried to keep true to the games). Also, they have indicated that they're going to keep the beautiful score from Silent Hill 2 by Akira Yamaoka.

Check out some pics from the location in Canada and tell me it doesn't look just like Silent Hill (www.horror-movies.ca) I can't wait for this one!

Sean Bean, Laurie Holden, Deborah Kara Unger, Kim Coates and Tanya Allen have joined the cast of Christophe Gans' horror film Silent Hill, which started shooting in Toronto on Monday with Radha Mitchell in the lead role.

Mitchell stars as Rose, a woman searching for her lost daughter, played by Tideland child actress Jodelle Ferland. Bean plays her husband in the chiller, written by Roger Avary. Holden is a police officer.

The film, budgeted at $45 million-$50 million, is a Franco-Canadian co-production. The big screen adaptation of the Konami game was recently acquired by TriStar Pictures.

TriStar Welcomes 'Silent Hill' Poster Ideas

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com)- Got a good idea for a poster to sell the new Radha Mitchell thriller "Silent Hill"? Neither does Sony. The studio is, however, open to suggestions on how to properly market the video game adaptation.
TriStar Pictures announced on Monday (Dec. 5) that the official poster for "Silent Hill" will be designed by a fan, or at least by somebody with Photoshop.

Creative elements from the film are available for download at the WelcomeToSilentHill.com website. Up until Jan. 3, users can submit their dream posters. The following day, all valid entries will be posted on the website and users will be invited to vote, through Jan. 17. A TriStar panel will narrow the 50 leading votegetters down to a quintet of finalists and then users will be welcomed to vote again.

The winning poster will be unveiled on Feb. 22 and will be displayed at theaters around the country in anticipation of the "Silent Hill" release on April 21, 2006.

"Silent Hill" is the English-language debut of Christophe Gans ("Brotherhood of the Wolf") and is based on Roger Avary's adaptation of the popular Konami game. Mitchell plays a woman searching for her daughter in a mysterious small town. Simon Bean co-stars.

It's probably just a coincidence that the Sony-affiliated picture is looking for amateur marketing assistance just as the studio's worldwide marketing chief Geoffrey Ammer has fallen on his sword, taking some of the blame for the studio's recent difficulties selling films like "Stealth" and "Zathura."

I loved the game! Don't know how the flick will be though. I'm always wary of video game to movie translations. i.e Mortal Kombat.

Blockbuster just shipped this out to me. I have never played the game, but I'm still looking forward to seeing the movie.

I fell asleep through much of this flick, but the parts I managed to catch were interesting. Pretty sacry special efx. Probably won't watch again.

Really I liked this movie thought it was pretty good and it matched the game aspects pretty well and the town they used for Silent Hill looked exactly like silent hill which is also really cool. Also yeah this film has some very disturbing scenes especially the ending which is pretty sick but I love horror and suspense movies so this is my type of film.

I just watched it. Visually, it was pretty impressive. I’ve never played the video game, so I felt like I wasn’t totally following what was happening. However, there was plenty enough action to keep my attention.

Watched it last night. I had never played the video game either, so was lost a couple of times.

Good movie - nice suspensful.

Finally caught this, and I must say that visually the movie looked great, but I wonder if you have to be an avid game player to understand what the hell was going on. It's very confusing, and, like all sub-standard horror movies, the heroine (at least in the first half) did 3 or 4 things a normal sane human being would never do.

Did like the ending though, although it was definitely a downer.
