Pirates of the Carribean

I know this comes out on the 9th. I was wondering if anyone has seen a sneak preview yet?

Or maybe Chaplin has heard something about it? I have been really excited about this movie and I hope it lives up to my expectation. Johnny Depp always seems to do very good movies!

I'm seeing it tonight as well. Can't wait--I know somebody here at work whose sister did some of the production design on it and she said it was fabulous.

My wife and I saw this today. We loved it. I thought the story was very good, the humor was well played, Johnny Depp and Geoffrey Rush were fantastic, and the stunts and effects were also great.

I'll be seeing this one again.

I'm going with my sister this weekend since we've been wanting to see it since they first advertised it. Looks great and I haven't heard a bad review yet!

Definitely the best pirate movie of the last 40 years... which doesn't say THAT much, but...

I thought it was pretty good--Keira Knightley has a face that you just can't take your eyes off of (even though she looks uncannily like Natalie Portman). Orlando Bloom wasn't wooden--he acted fine--but his character was certainly fairly boring.

Johnny Depp was terrific though. The combination of femininity and masculinity worked pretty well--and he definitely had charisma and most of the funny parts of the movie.

The effects were surprisingly much better than I thought they'd be, especially in one of the final sword fights.

I like the fact that Gore Verbinski was the director, as it added something more than just straight action--atmosphere.

4) Would watch the film over Armageddon any day
3) Could watch the final act of Armageddon instead, but only barely
2) Could watch the whole film of Armageddon instead, but minus the Ben Affleck/Liv Tyler romance
1) Would rather watch the entire film of Armageddon, along deleted scenes and commentary (translation: the reviewed film sucks)

Pirates of the Carribean
4

(Keep in mind, that doesn't mean it's a perfect film, just preferable to Armageddon)

My wife and I went to see the movie last night. I will try to keep the spoilers out......... After having to sit in 3rd row and my smart little comments about the movie being made by Disney and how it was a PG-13 movie, I quickly got over that notion. The movie was great. Johnny was funny and witty. I also like how they through in the scenes from the Disneyland Ride (made me scream for my Mickey ears) I loved the fight scenes with them changing. (you will see) I will have to see this movie again to get a better view. (OK I liked a Disney PG-13 movie there are you happy)

Ar, that be a fine movie!

I am not joking when I say that watching this at AMC 24 were several hundred teenagers dressed like pirates and brandishing wooden swords and boullion. Is there some fan club I'm unaware of or something? Loved the movie. Johnny Depp completely stole the show. His intro alone was worth the price of admission. Did anybody catch all of the homages to the ride? My fave was the bird saying "Abandon hope, ye who enter here" as they're sailing. Chap's right, Orlando Bloom's character (with the most pathetic mustache ever put on screen) was pretty boring but he had plenty of help. Geoffrey Rush, as always, was great. Action, comedy, swash-buckling - all top rate.

**** out of *****

Man this movie is the best movie of the summer so far.

I smiled through the whole thing. I will probably see it again in the next week.

I hate that.

My wife and I always sit in the first or second row, in the middle.

That was a great movie! I was pretty surprised by the number of people there with real small kids like 5-6 year olds. True it's Disney but PG-13 none the less.

Anyone else see the trailer for the Haunted Mansion? That looked pretty good too! Wonder if the Small World movie is next?

I thought the special effects were underrated. Also, I read Johnny Depp played his part based on Rolling Stone guitarist Richardson, I believe. I could totally see that when I went to see the movie with my kids. We saw the first showing at 11AM, and there were only about 4-5 other families in with us. However, when we came out, there was a big line waiting for the next showing. I thought it was good. Much better than Finding Nemo!
