Most Shocking Moments in Movie History…

I thought this would be an interesting discussion. I was thinking about moments in films where you are left absolutely stunned by an event you didn’t see coming. Something that left you absolutely speechless – an image, revelation you will never forget or hit you hard emotionally. I’m not sure if there are many moments of pure joy. Most everything I can think of has to do with someone dying or some shocking revelation. Unfortunately, this discussion will ultimately contain crucial SPOILERS. So I’m thinking that we should only name the movie and the actor/character – and try to describe the moment without really describing the actual event incase someone has not seen the film. Here is the start of my list:

Empire Strikes Back – (double shocker) Darth Vader cuts off Luke’s hand and says…

Crying Game – Jay Davison reveals to Stephen Rea…

Sixth Sense – Bruce Willis discovers that…

The Usual Suspects – Kevin Spacey leaves the police station and we learn that…

Mrs. Miniver(1941) – Bomb drops near the car of the mother and her daughter-in-law…

Star Trek 2 The Wrath of Khan – Spock fixes the hyper drive and…

Pulp Fiction – Christopher Walken’s demeanor changes quite abruptly just before presenting a wristwatch (Pulp Fiction is actually loaded with a lot of shocking moments)

True Romance – Dennis Hopper tells Christopher Walken the history of Sicilians

Witness – Harrison Ford sees the Amish boy notice the killer’s picture in the police station…

The first thing that comes to mind is Fight Club, but I can probably come up with a list a little later.

Finding out what Rosebud means in Citizen Kane was a pretty big surprise ending, especially back when it was made and most films were melodramatic with really predictable endings.

Shawshank Redemption, when the warden starts throwing rocks at the poster of Miss Fussy Britches (or something like that).
