I can never understand why people will spend $10k on an LCD or DLP TV, but laugh at me when I suggest a projector instead.
I have an Infocus Screenplay with a pull-down wall screen and it is freaking awesome. (100 inch screen) And it only ran me $1,500. It's much better than any TV that I have seen. Get a projector!

I've got a Samsung 61" and I absolutely love it. It's a DLP. There's quite a few extensive articles on cnet.com about the differences, pros and cons of each.

Yeah, $1500 + the amount of money to make your room dark so you can actually watch it during the day...
My LCD cost me $1600 + shipping...not sure where you get the $10k figure...

You got a good price, the best I found at CIrcuit City, good guys and Best Buy was closer to 1900, which is what CC has it for now on sale.
I recently bought a TV and did all the legwork too. I came down to about 4 decisions. The best TV picture IMHO is the Sony XBR(several guys here mentioned it). It's about 2199 and it never goes on sale. I looked at the set you bought but it was too big for my room and too out of my budget. I came down to the Sony 34 inch widescreen KV34HS420, and the Panasonic of the same size. Sony's picture was slightly better but I bought the panasonic because it was ~ 400 cheaper. I really love my tv.
The DLP's have a bulb that has to be replaced and the bulbs are VERY expensive. The estimates on bulb life vary wildly, if you read the online reviews on Circuit City's site you'll find several folks who had a bulb burn out just over 1 year after buying the set, and in many cases I think the warranty on the bulb is only 90 days. Now maybe only people with bad experiences post reports, I don't know, but that's what scared me off DLP.
I really like the LCD's, the tv Mike bought is not a "true" flat screen it's a 15" depth and that's why it's so affordable, the really flat flat screens that you can hang on a wall like a picture cost a lot more. Plasmas seem to be fading out, too noisy and too unreliable, LCD is definitely the better technology of the two IMHO.
I looked at the projector and screen approach too but where i wanted it in a corner a screen made no sense, I would have had to do it flat on one wall and that was the wrong viewing angle for much of the room.

THe set you have I found not one complaint about the bulb burning out early or often, the DLP's there were people that were on their 3rd bulb in 18 months, things like that.
I really like the set you have, the 42 inch was just too big for my area although in reality it's not a whole lot bigger than 34 inch since mine has speakers on the sides. Mainly it was the budget.
What I mean by true flatscreen is I think they consider anything over about 8 inches deep to not be a flat screen, at least that's what I was told at ANderson's big screen. I called your tv a flat screen and got a lecture on it, the guy was of course trying to sell me a more expensive LCD and said the Sony wasn't a true flatscreen. It's much thinner than the set I got so to ME it was flat.
The Panasonic has a darker picture too, but I really love it. I watched Shark Tale yesterday and the color is amazing, of course the DVD kept jamming and skipping but that's not the tv's fault it was the 2 small gouges on the disk from blockbuster online.

Well, when I checked my TV, the lowest I could find in a store was $2300 +tax...
I got it online for $1600ish plus shipping for $1898. Not a bad deal
You are right, I guess it's not a flatscreen if that's what they say...I just thought it was Flat Panel...
My TV I researched up the butt...nothing I can find anywhere shows it having anything wrong with it...which is the reason I got it.
The bulbs are around $150-200, so if one goes out in the first year, the warranty will be nice to have...
I was about to buy a DLP widescreen TV when a friend said I would be better off with a LCD TV. Is there a big difference? I also heard there is some kind of new HDTV coming out. Anyone else hear about this?

With work and researching this tv, I totally spaced it. Sorry. As for the bulb burning out,, can we install a new one or does the TV have to be sent in for repair?
