This has been going on for years.
There's a script being written by Frank Darabont (writer/director of Shawshank and Green Mile).
In fact, this may be Spielberg and Ford's next project as soon as Lucas is done with Star Wars.

Harrison Ford told the SciFi Wire ( http://www.scifi.com) that Frank Darabont has finished the script for "Indiana Jones 4" and goes on to say that pre-production is expected to move along shortly. "Steven [Spielberg]'s quite happy with it," Ford said in an interview. "I'm expecting to see it in a couple of weeks."
Ford added that he worked closely with director Spielberg, Darabont and executive producer George Lucas on the story. "The way the process works is that George and Frank work together, then Steven gets the script, then I get the script, and we all work together. We all met together and talked about it before they started writing."
Ford said that he remains eager to reprise his most famous role because of fans' demands for a fourth installment in the franchise. "It pleases me to play a character that audiences want to see," he said. "I know that it's eagerly anticipated, and I want us to do a good job, make a film at least as good as the ones we've made before."

All I ask is that Jar Jar Binks or some character of equal stupidity doesn't make it into the next Indy film. Lucas' recent track record hasn't been the best it could've been.

Jeff Nathanson Rewriting Indiana Jones 4
Source: Variety
October 27, 2004
George Lucas and Steven Spielberg have hired Jeff Nathanson to rewrite Indiana Jones 4, reports Variety. Aside from writing the Rush Hour films, Nathanson also wrote Spielberg's Catch Me If You Can and co-wrote The Terminal.
If Nathanson delivers a draft that clicks with Lucas, Spielberg and star Harrison Ford, Spielberg would still have to make the movie a priority to get it into production any time soon, adds the trade.
After doing The War of the Worlds with Tom Cruise, Spielberg was next planning to film a drama about the aftermath of the 1972 Munich Olympics terrorist tragedy.
Lucas is currently working on completing Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith while Ford is preparing to star in The Wrong Element. After that, Ford is scheduled to shoot Godspeed, a drama about a crisis on an international space station.
Nathanson made his feature directorial debut on last month's The Last Shot, which he also wrote.

Maybe they'll have Indy find out he has a son...then Indy, his dad and his newfound son go on an amazing adventure and in the end it's clear that the torch has been passed to the next generation of the Jones' family.

He goes to Vietnam as a master soldier, later becoming a police officer. Unfortunately his wife is killed, and he endures various stages of suicidal tendencies. It's not until he partners with an older family-oriented cop that he realizes he can live life again and make a difference.
Wait a minute....

Harrison Ford on Indiana Jones 4
Source: The Indy Experience
December 4, 2004
The Indy Experience caught up with Harrison Ford and asked what the latest was on Indiana Jones 4. Frank Darabont had written a draft, but that did not receive the green light. Instead, George Lucas and Steven Spielberg hired Jeff Nathanson to do a rewrite and things are looking good.
Asked whether or not "Indy 4" will still be made, Ford answered, "No doubt about it." And while he says this next film is his, he wouldn't mind a younger actor playing Indy in possible future films.
The site added that George Lucas, who rejected Darabont's script, is happy with the new draft from Nathanson.

Connery Ready for Indiana Jones 4?
Source: Contact Music
February 12, 2005
Contact Music says it talked to Sean Connery's publicist, Nancy Seltzer, who gave an update on the actor's career.
"He's not interested in just doing anything, to work for the sake of working... He's taken some time off to write his memoirs but he hasn't retired," says Seltzer.
She added that he would like to reprise his character in Indiana Jones 4. "When I asked him if he'd play Indiana Jones' father again in another sequel, he said, 'Of course I would. Don't be ridiculous.'"

George Lucas on Indiana Jones 4
Source: Hollywood.com
April 29, 2005
Hollywood.com caught up with writer/director/executive producer George Lucas who talked about the upcoming Indiana Jones 4.
Lucas says that Steven Spielberg informed him that the script was done and he talked about the evolution of the script. "I came up with this idea doing Young Indy, which has got to be about seven or eight years ago, and we've been through a number of scripts--six or eight scripts. Six scripts, two rewrites. So it's been down the path."
Lucas added that Harrison "plays an older person in this" and that it is possible there will be a younger person but "not really to take over". He doesn't expect the younger person will be used to create new movies with. "No, it wasn't meant to be that way. But I guess that's a possibility. It's really to wrap it up. Just desperately trying to put things together that work. You need characters to make the film work. It's not just an adventure story. There's actually got to be human relationships in it."
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Man, I hope they don't screw this up.
