I grew up on horror films from the 70's and 80's. It was right about the time I got to college that "Scream" reared its ugly head (not to say that Scream was a bad film) and suddenly every horror film had to be hip with a cast of WB rejects and a soundtrack by Limp Bizkit.
House of 1000 Corpses is an homage to the sick and twisted horror films of yesterday. Rob Zombie brings back honest-to-God evil villains. The antagonists in this film are the main attraction. It's their antics that keep your interest. The victims (or spam, as I refer to them as) are exactly that. There's no time for character development - they don't last long enough. What Rob Zombie has done is created a film where you're cheering for the bad guys. I guess that's just one more disturbing element in the film.
The effects are excellent. The makeup, costumes, and set design are all top-notch. All of the actors do an outstanding job. The music is great. The only problem I had was that a few times Rob seems to forget that this is a movie, not a music video. Some of the editing is redundant, as are some of the segways, but these are the flaws of a first-time director and the rest of the movie makes up for it.
I highly recommend this one to any horror fans out there but it's probably too brutal for mainstream audiences.

I hadn't seen any previews for it, but the title caught my eye as I was entering the theatre a few days ago. If it's a true horror flick I must go check it out!
This has been on the top of our "must see list" for a few years now - glad to see that it finally has made it's way to the theaters. I'm going to try and catch it this weekend.

I started to drive over to the real Disneyland, but it was getting pretty late." - Jack Handy
That was about the most twisted thing I've ever seen. It was like 7 on steroids.
Is there some unwritten rule that says bad guys can't brush their teeth, or what?

The Greek disdain for archery was best expressed at Thermopylae (480BC) by Dieneces the Spartan - when he was told that the Persian arrows flew so thick that they blocked out the sun, he replied, "So much the better, then we will fight in the shade."
Variety reports that rocker Rob Zombie will begin developing a sequel to "House of 1000 Corpses," his horror film which opened in April. Plans are to begin shooting the sequel later this year in order to release it in April 2004.
The first "House of 1000 Corpses" had been completed for some time, but had problems getting distribution. Originally, Universal Pictures was in charge of the project, but after viewing a rough cut of the film, the studio deemed it too violent and thus decided not to distribute it. It wasn't until Lions Gate Films picked up the movie and decided to release it this year.
