Green Lantern Rumors
It's being rumored that Jack Black will play the title role in a Green Lantern comedic (duh) film.
This will be the death knell in the comic-book film genre just like "Batman and Robin" killed it for a while. Green Lantern IS NOT a comedic character. He's supposed to be the very picture of a hero--but it seems Hollywood will be using the less "heroic" tact of him creating giant boxing gloves to knock out his foes rather than depicting the story of a test pilot so brave that he was not only selected to be one of the guardians of the universe, but the very picture of what a Green Lantern should be.
Jack Black. Bah!
*spits on ground*
PS--in better news, it's being reported that Ray Loitta will play Dr. Doom in the FF movie. That news combined with the GL news, is, unfortunately, a wash. + =

Ugh....what is it with those folks at DC and Hollywood?!
Their screwin up the superman movie - messed up the catwomon movie and now their gonna take one of the most serious types of characters and make it into a comedy?!
Haven't they seen the success of the x-men and spiderman?!

Marvel isn't culpableless (I just made that up, I'm going to try to coin it)--three words: Dare F'n Devil.
Nobody should let Ben Affleck anywhere near a movie studio ever again.

Jack Black to Star as Green Lantern?
Source: Ain't-It-Cool-News
Friday, July 16, 2004
Ain't-It-Cool-News is reporting that the rumors about Jack Black playing Green Lantern are true...
Jack Black has closed his deal. He will be playing Green Lantern in a film that has been described as a "zany comedy version a la THE MASK." All rights to the DC comic have been worked out as well, so you can expect to start hearing more about this project in the months ahead.
.................................................. ....................................
I'm a diehard Marvel fan, yet as a diverse comic geek...I must say...NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Oh man, I REALLY hope they fastrack Superman (and Iron Man, and Dr. Strange, and Ghost Rider, ad naseum) now, because if this movie is released before they do, they won't make it. This movie will not do well, IMO. if you want to make a zany comedy, why not make it with a zany-comedic character (ala The Mask)? Ugh.

You do NOT screw with Green Lantern, Submariner, or Silver Surfer. Period. Good lord, they got me through my childhood and adolescence halfway sane!
I like Jack Black - in roles where he belongs. This is not one of them.

The words "zany comedy" and "Green Lantern" don't belong in the same sentence.

So what? He didn't play it zany or wacky.
