Roger Federer just became the only man to win eight Wimbledon titles. Another title is in order as well...
I'm glad you started this thread. I was just thinking that the other day. Speaking of Andy it was Andy Roddick that was a match point away from being the last American male to win a Wimbledon back in 2009/10? I felt bad for him then because you could tell that was his shot. I have to give props to Europe because they have really taken control of this sport. There are so many great players right now. Back in the 90s when I first started watching tennis it was all Pete Sampras in this tournament. But it seemed like he had no rival. These guys now have 4 legit dominate guys to counter and then you still have a gauntlet of other players who can poach on the weary(as Andy Murray found out this tourney). IDK I just think tennis has become stronger in Europe with superstars like Nadal/Federer/Djovkavic/Murray. I've yet to see something like this in my lifetime of watching tennis. But I'm sure one day America will have another great player. All it takes is 1...
For me this is why I think he is the best player I've ever watched. and he did this in an era of multiple great players. I know back in the day there were players that I have not watched that had rivals. but nadal/and all of the others...and a british player that is world number 1. he's had a lot of competition...
