a good agent can be a team's best friend in this case

Badger has many good qualities, but he isnt a $14mm year player

I am not sure the free market would match that either: by comparison- Tony Jefferson, a guy with no injury history and coming off of a killer year has a deal with a $8.5mm annual avg cap hit ( $9mm in 2018)

i dont know if Badger is going to get another team to, lets say, give him a signing bonus + salary next year of more than $10mm

He's my favorite player so I hope he doesn't go, but I'd prefer he renegotiates. Baker's play might make that a challenge.

i just... idk. it's a tough situation and i can see the perspective of both the team and the badger. he probably never should have gotten such a rich contract in the first place.

Yea. People shouldn’t be blaming Tyrann for taking the contract. They should be blaming Keim for offering him that contract.

I don’t think most responders were picking him apart. Your points are mostly accurate but your missing the fact that TM still deludes himself that he’s the player he once was. So his I’m not taking a pay cut is unrealistic. If he wants to literally prove he’s the same player he used to be, ask him to take a contract with performance incentives that can pay him the number he is to get. I’m quite sure he’d pass. It’s always tragic when this happens to a player. Keim made a huge mistake. It’s time to pay the price.

Regardless of who's to blame the Badger either takes a pay cut or he gets released. Mathieu can stick his chest out all he wants and say he's not taking a pay cut, but at the end of the day Steve Keim or another NFL team will dictate what he gets and it wont be 14 million a year.

While it's not necessarily Honey Badger, there was this cryptic tweet by Jurecki

Cardinals CB Tyrann Mathieu will be guaranteed $19 million if he's on the roster at the start of the 2018 league year, March 14.

Mathieu would be guaranteed a $5 million roster bonus, his $5.75 million 2018 salary, and $8 million of his 2019 salary if that happens. Beat writer Kent Somers believes the Cardinals could ask Mathieu to take a pay cut or even release him if he refuses. Mathieu appeared in all 16 games this season for the first time in his career and played more snaps than any other player. Mathieu was Pro Football Focus' No. 44 corner out of 121 qualifiers in 2017, excelling as a pass rusher.

We should’ve tried to dump him for a chump change draft pick before the trade deadline

TM is listed as the highest paid safety for 2018 per OTC. The 44th highest paid Safety for 2018 is Mike Adams for the Panthers and will get $2,425,000.

TM needs to renegotiate and Keim needs to do a better job on his contracts.
