Coming back from injury is probably the number one issue contributing to drop in "quickness." The other, I'd suggest, is that he's put on quite a bit of muscle/weight.

Good points. HB looks somewhat out of shape, too. He doesn't have the bounce, play to play, that he used to have. His face is more flushed than usual. Pre-snap he does not get into a football stance. Keeps getting caught in grey areas a step or two behind the play, which is surprising for a player of his instincts. But then a few times a game he flashes and gives glimpses of his brilliance.

I love HB and admire his desire but I don't like the me first attitude.

The nature of football contract force players to put 'me' first. Can't blame them.

Yup. You worry about your family & yourself first & foremost in any sport, especially in a sport like football.

Ah, so a 'friend' said it. Well, maybe he'll take a pay cut, if offered on a Wednesday.

He doesn't have to take a pay cut but if winning is important to him then realizing that money would go to getting guys that can help this team get back to the SB might convince him.

A couple things that jump out to me in this thread...

    1-Yes, Mathieu is overpaid.
2-Yes, Mathieu is not the player he was prior to injuries.
3-Criticizing the technique or style of play of one of the most instinctual players in the NFL by fans is ignorant.
4-Mathieu has always been a player who takes pride in being a Cardinal. He has always been a hard worker. He is not a ME player.

I find it interesting when I see fans do this. They try to tear down and pick apart players when the business of the sport gets involved. Even today, Mathieu is a good NFL player whose body has let him down. He still works hard. He still fights for the organization. We gave him a contract based on the belief that his body would bounce back. It hasn't. Blame Keim for giving a player recovering from an injury a contract that puts the organization in this position. Don't blame the player who is doing everything he can but is hamstrung by a body that can't do what it used to.

Keim made a mistake...it happens...and I dont blame badger for signing the deal, I would have too.
But Keim needs to find a way to fix the mistake. or not I guess... not like there are tons of slot corners who can make a difference lined up at the door to replace the kid for vet minimum

He’s not half the player Troy Polamalu was since the injuries. Did you ever see Troy play hurt? That guy still disrupted offenses when he wasn’t 100%.

Troy also had a great DC that put him in positions to succeed. Bettcher doesn't do that so much...

    We're getting ahead of ourselves.

We don't know who our HC and DC are.

We don't know what our defensive system is.

We don't know how team chemistry will unfold.

We don't know what TM's expected role in all this will be.
