I don't know. Scanners that steal info from the magnetic strip? Maybe they steal the info off of the card when it's on the rack & the store & wait for it to be activated?

I think one of the problems with gift cards is that the serial numbers are not randomized.

So, for example, if one card has a number 1234 5678 1234 5678 and you know they’re produced sequentially, it’s easy to know that one card will have the number 1234 5678 1234 5679. Even if the last four digits change, it’s easy to use software to find a valid number.

IIRC, the PIN is only required for checking balances and not for spending money. So you really don’t need to know anything other than the number on the card.

I think some systems are better than others, but some companies are on Equifax-level security still.

I just looked it up and found another way to get ripped off.

People go to stores, scratch off the strip, write down the number or take a photo of it, then PUT A REPLACEMENT STRIP ON, and put the card back.

Once the card is activated, the guy gets an alert saying that happened via software that periodically checks balances, and off he goes.

So if you must buy a gift card, get one that is locked away somewhere and hope the employees aren’t pulling the same scam.

This is really sad, but we can learn a lot from this little guy. Send him a card if you can.

Just found out today that both my boss and I are moving out to Maricopa to take over the community from the guy we took over this community from. We are both officially starting out there Monday but I will be splitting time between there and my current community in Queen Creek.

The rules part is that I like working with my current boss. We make a good team. Plus I get a good reputation as a team player.

Thanks, I will have to get one for my parents. They've lived in their house for 22 years and have never done this, and my Mom was just telling me today that her dryer wasn't working well (has to go 2-3 cycles to get anything dry) then I saw your post and put 2 and 2 together and now I have to do this for them ASAP because I'm not gonna stop stressing about it now lol.

Thanks Hollywood, you very well may have saved a life, I'll post what I get out of it when its done lol.

Yeah, I am with Bert on this one. I gotta go get that pole and clean out my own dryer now. Every time I turn on my dryer I think of Hollywood's post, lol. I don't want to die in a fire! Thanks, Hollywood!

No problem. Just a heads up. On mine I had to get up on the roof and go from the top down to get everything because the opening on the roof was kind of pinched off.

I'm so glad my dryer vents straight out the wall to the outside. Literally less than a foot.

My dryer is in a corner with a low hanging cabinet above it, so the hardest thing for me was to climb over the darn thing and squeeze between it and the cabinet to get out from behind it when I was done.
