Any word on the future of the Coyotes here in AZ? I haven't heard anything lately. Hope they can work out something and stay in AZ.

I don't remember if they have one more year with Glendale or not. If not, they don't have a home for 2017-18. At least not one they want to pay for.

I'd guess there's probably less than a 20% chance they're here in 2yrs. Baring a local white knight, no one wants to give them any $$ for a new home or share one with them. It's shtiy any way you cut it.

Last I heard was that they can go year to year with AEG, the group that manages the Gila River Arena. Expansion to Las Vegas should secure '17-18 but after that all bets are off. Especially if Seattle becomes an option. Quebec City has a brand spanking new hockey arena and a hungry fan base, but the NHL seems concerned by the alignment of the teams and moving a west team to the east doesn't appear to be what they want. If we don't have some type of new location or deep-pocketed ownership cooking by this time next year, put a fork in them.

Oh, and good luck attracting free agents with even more uncertainty about the team's future. :hammer:

I thought the ownership now was in for the long haul on owning them. Why does it sound like they are not a long lasting owner?

What they promise and what they actually do bring the commitment into question. The latest news on the ownership front is that Andrew Barroway is trying to buy out some of the other owners to have a majority share. What happens after that is anyone's guess.

What a mess. I'd be pissed if they left AZ.

There was a group that was looking into building an arena near Scottsdale not so long ago. I think the Coyotes blew them off. Maybe they need to start talking.

As would a lot of us, but at the same time, how much more can a fan base put up with?

As poor as attendance is, I'm amazed they draw anyone at this point. It really goes to show that if even a modest amount of respectability was earned, the team could be successful. I just don't know if we'll ever get there with this perennial clown show the valley has been presented.

There it is, announced this AM. Wonder how this changes our situation. Maybe he'll be more willing to work with Sarver and the suns.. the Yotes and the Suns in downtown is exacty what both fan bases and the City need

I tend to agree with this, but the economics are difficult for the Coyotes when splitting revenues up between NBA, concerts, WNBA, Arena football, etc.

If the Yotes were to leave Gila River, they would be negotiating hard for events which will strain the new arena's ability to draw other lucrative events with fewer open dates.

I think a move back downtown will boost attendance but will it sell out every night at top ten league prices? The NHL doesn't have the huge TV deals like the NFL and and to a lesser extent the NBA.

Lots of kinks to work out and I just don't feel the timetable fits for a Coyote rescue. I hate to admit that, but we just don't have the local billionaire that loves hockey to mount his white horse and save the day here.

Since moving to Glendale the Coyotes are 447-454-125. When the 2004-2005 season was locked out the Coyotes & Glendale were supposed to host the NHL All-Star Game, to this day have not. The only time the team made a playoff run was during the NHL's ownership run, 2009-2012. ALL other ownership groups were well below .500. Unless Barroway & Sarver can co-exist on a deal downtown or Gila River wants to build an arena on the East side, it's Glendale until another city i.e. Quebec comes calling... :-(

Suns should move to Glendale. All problems solved.
Except for all the knuckle dragging East side fans.:trout:
