I think this is the case with cars. I don't know much about air conditioners...i had to replace the one on my house in 2014 after it had been on the house for 12 years. Hopefully this one lasts longer :)

Well that's convenient. The hypocrisy is worse than watching Adam Sandler movies.

And the new tax code encourages the automation at the expense of worker salaries...

The products I sell are mostly steel. Costs to me rose about 8% in 2017. I have been notified by my manufacturers of another price increase in January, 6%.

    Merry Christmas.

It sucks for the people that lose their jobs yes, but automation is a direct result of technology and progress, and it's driven by the consumers desire to pay less for everything.

It's a catch 22 we can do things faster and "better" but it costs people jobs.

This is why a universal basic income is inevitable at some point in the next 20-30 years. Either that, or the elites will have to euthanize millions of poor, though they might prefer that.

    I actually kind of agree.

I'm probably naive but I've always liked Amazon and disliked Walmart. My way of differentiating them has been that Walmart has physical stores that they staf with employees who get low wages, intentionally don't get enough hours to get benefits. From what I've read Amazon pays benefits to employees and while not all of them get it they don't do what Walmart does where they intentionally cut off your hours to prevent you from getting benefits. They don't pay a high wage either but in general pay a higher wage than Walmart.

And they reinvest tons of money into the business to grow the business which creates more jobs. Walmart keeps the money for the major shareholders, the family.

Amazon is one of those companies that by automating is losing some jobs but then in other ways they innovate and create jobs. I own stock in Amazon, I'd never own Walmart's stock I just have a fundamental objection to how they do business and treat people.

I love Starbucks for the same reason although I sold their stock because I thought it had run too much.

But I do agree the way we're headed at some point there are going to be lots of jobs going away as a result of automation, and people are still going to need to have money to live on.

The new generation doesn't need anything except a bed, food pellets, and video games. It'll be fine.
