Its cooling down and I feel the need to get out of town. I was hoping to go somewhere in October because while we have been slammed at work this month they are going to drop off to nothing next month. But I haven't planned anything and I might have missed my window. Maybe I will be able to take a long weekend at the end of the month.

It was 56° this morning in Chandler. Cooler weather is definitely coming/here.

Turned out it was an ASU home game too, lots of fireworks right above our heads. Hadnt hiked since spring, so glad summer is over.

I talked myself into it. I am going to take off the last Thursday and Friday of October and make it a 4 day trip. Now, where to go.....

Keep an eye on the temperature and weather, it gets nasty on the peaks.

I will. It might be the only thing that will move me to another place. And thanks for the link.

If anything, I was thinking just set a backup plan in lower elevation that way as you inch closer, you aren't scrambling to find a new location. Crown king is always nice but it gets very cold and suseptible to wind/weather as well in late october. Lots of cool stuff in tucson you could check out.

It gets tough in late fall, really cold on all the peaks and I know you are a fan of camping in high elevation. Typically late in the year I do a lot of lake camping as it still gets cold as **** and no one is at butcher jones and etc because no one is swimming. Ive camped there in freezing overnight temps before, couldnt imagine being at high elevation on the same night.

I wheeled up four peaks during a storm in winter, it was AWESOME but I wouldnt want to camp in it. Driving around on the ice and snow was great though.

I always try to have a backup location. Whether it is somewhere close by because the spot I want doesn't work out for some reason or somewhere far due to weather. I learned the importance of that a few years ago when the FR to my campsite was closed and I had to scramble to find another place. Not a big deal except we unknowingly ended up camping on private property. (It was a great spot and I sometimes think I need to find the owners and see if I can get permission to go back there)

The freezing nights aren't bad if you prepare. Good sleep system to keep you warm. It is the reason I want to make that wood burning stove for inside the tent. I just need to find a balance in size. Big enough to load up so it will run for hours but small enough not to take up all the room.
