I'm very sad to relay that one of this board's biggest followers and contributors passed away recently.

Steve Schutze, aka Duckjake, was a die hard of a Cardinal fan that you'd ever meet. I met Steve through this board over a decade ago when he posted he was coming to AZ (from Austin, TX) to play golf and catch a game and invited others to come along. I took his invite and that led to a friendship of Cardinal brothers from there onward.

I don't post much but check this forum daily and lately have noticed a lack of Duckjake comments. That had me looking, unfortunately my fear was realized when I found his obituary online.

I've been to many a Cardinal game with Steve. Just think about a man who for decades traveled to Arizona from Texas to watch his team. The guy was as dedicated a fan as you'll ever meet.

One of the things about Steve that I enjoyed so much was he loved, and I mean truly enjoyed b*%chin about his team. While watching a game he'd throw out a consistent stream of the things he was disgusted about, regardless of his frustration he kept glued to the action.

Something about Steve that some of you are aware, the guy was a walking encyclopedia of Cardinal knowledge. He knew more about stats, past players, scores of games, etc. that he could rattle off endlessly. I always enjoyed reading his reply to a poster whereby he would use a story or stat from past years to back up his conclusion.

I have to wonder if this Cardinal season contributed to his passing, not having the normal outlet of complaining about his Cardinals surely pent up some anger. I kid of course, it is truly sad that after being a Cardinal fan for so many decades he isn't here to watch the season play out.

RIP my friend, may you finally find that golf swing you so desperately sought to find here.

RIP. We didn't always agree (especially over his love for Leonard Davis, and everything Texas), but he was a great contributor to the forum.

Didn't he tragically loose his Son the past year or two as well?

    RIP DJ

Wow! So sorry to hear this news. Duck was one of the biggest reasons why I kept coming back to this board... I loved his postings and his unique brand of cynical humor.
RIP Duck.... So sad... Our board has lost yet another alltime great. :-(

    Wow. RIP.

I also had noticed his lack of posts but never thought anything like this. He was the first person from this board that I met in person. It was at the Cards home opener at U of P against SF and he invited me to a tailgate.

We kept in touch over the years and always shared a good ribbing over Ohio State and Texas.

This news is terrible and very sad.

edit: Man, what a punch to the gut. This really sucks. I just read the obit and it happened unexpectedly. He was a big a Cards fan as anyone. I know he used to play in Cards charity golf outing years ago(he would joke whichever Card he played with was cut the following year) and was just an all around great guy.

Wow. That was a hilarious guy. I rarely post here anymore but can remember comical exchanges with Duck on here over the past ten years. For some reason, I think I remember hearing of his son passing recently as well. If that's true, then at least they're together again.
