Nothing but good news for the Phoenix Suns

Date October 12, 2007 by Mike Olbinski

Paul Coro has me practically giddy after reading his latest article.

I’m headed to the Phoenix Suns preseason opener Saturday night to see most of this for myself, but from what Coro writes, this team is just shaping up to be perhaps the best we’ve seen yet.

Maybe I’m just excited about the season coming, but honestly, with the addition of Grant Hill, a more in shape Boris Diaw, and a seriously improved bench, the Suns could be a better team.

The first thing he wrote about was Hill’s three-point shooting and how much of a weapon it will be this year. In his first game on Thursday he hit one three and scored 17 points. He’s also in the best shape of his career says Coro, which is such a benefit to Phoenix. I’ve already stated how much of an impact Hill will be for this team barring injuries and we’re already seeing it after one game.

Not only him, but apparently Amare Stoudemire will be chucking up more shots from long range this year. His form improves every year and the article quotes Mike D’Antoni as saying he can be a 35-40% shooter from long range.

Wow.

On a side note, Amare’s knee is doing well and he’s already back on the court for agility exercises and some shooting drills. He even dunked once. He was quoted as “feeling fantastic.”

This article reports once again about the improvement of Marcus Banks. I’ve read at least 2-3 reports from camp about how much he’s learned over the summer and how much the coaches are raving about him. D’Antoni said he was “the best thing that came out of” their first game.

His defense has always been good, but if his offense can fit into the flow of the game, he could be a real asset off the bench. Just think: more rest for Steve Nash.
