Kurt Warner hopes his arm stays attached

Date October 18, 2007 by Mike Olbinski

Kurt WarnerOn the way into work this morning, I of course was listening to Doug and Wolf on KTAR, when the news came on to report about Kurt Warner’s status for Sunday.

They played a sound bite of him from after practice yesterday basically stating that the team is looking for the best brace for his elbow in order to help keep everything “in place.”

What a stud. If my elbow and arm couldn’t stay connected because of torn ligaments and stretched tendons, the last place you’d find me would be in an NFL FOOTBALL GAME.

Yet Warner wants to play Sunday. They aren’t sure yet, a lot of it has to do with his ability to hold onto the ball. I assume if the brace isn’t great, and his arm does fall off, fumbles will ensue and become a problem.

So let’s hope they find a good one.

Tearing ligaments is bad, and I know this having dislocated my shoulder thrice over. The more you do stuff like that, the more likely it is to happen again. Things get all stretched out and loose and stuff.

Yuck.

When it first happened to me, I laid around for a week in a sling, ate ice cream and cried a lot. Once, I left the house in the car and we went over a speed bump and I yelped in pain.

Warner is going to stand in the pocket with people trying to kill him and hope Redskins’ defensive end Andre Carter doesn’t add to his sack total by ripping his arm off.

Props to Warner…the guy knows what’s important to him: Winning. He knows he gives Arizona the best chance to defeat Washington this week, even with only one functioning arm, and he’ll fight the pain in order to play. That’s more than can be said for some other players on the team I wont mention.

In the meantime, I just stubbed my toe, so I’m going to go home and watch Pushing Daisies.

Whether Warner is able to play on Sunday or not and whether we win or lose, my respect for Warner has increased leaps and bounds… What a stud, what a man! Putting your body on line for the team is not a simple and easy task by any means.

This is why NFL players make millions, they’re willing to take a beating week in and week out, plus go out and play when they should be home on the couch.

Props to KW!
