Diamondbacks take Game 1

I’d love to know what Jose Valverde says when he closes out a game like that. The guys on ESPN think he says “Get out of here! Game over!” But I think it’s hard to tell.
Either way, it gets me pumped. Especially now in the playoffs.
The Arizona Diamondbacks took Game 1 of the NLDS against the Chicago Cubs Wednesday night 3-1. Brandon Webb was as usual dealing some deadly stuff in this game, limiting the Cubs to only four hits. Brandon Lyon and Papa Verde shut-out Chicago in relief of Webb in the eighth and ninth.
Stephen Drew got things started with a solo shot in the fourth inning, which was follow by Mark Reynolds own blast in the 7th. A Conor Jackson sac-fly scored Chris Snyder to put the Dbacks up 3-1 for good.
Webb was spectacular, going the seven innings with nine strikeouts. Despite letting a run score in the sixth, he got himself out of a bases-loaded jam relatively unscathed.
The fans were great and the announcers beforehand said the Dbacks-Cubs split was 80-20, which is a far better turnout than many Arizona fans feared.
Those Dbacks fans didn’t hold back, reminding the Cubs with homemade signs that they haven’t won a championship since 1908.
And with winning Game 1, Arizona looks to extend that streak.
