Colorado Rockies already in trouble
October 10, 2007 by Mike Olbinski
The Arizona Diamondbacks received a bit of help on Wednesday when the mother of all curses was announced as having been directed at the hottest team in baseball.
We should be relieved, it could have been the Dbacks. But I guess the fact that even compared to Colorado Rockies, Arizona is still the underdog.
Jeff Francis, the ace of the Colorado pitching staff, will be on the cover of Sports Illustrated this week.
Ouch.
The cover goes with the story “Out of Thin Air: The Colorado Rockies Work A Mile High Miracle,” by Jack McCallum.
Jimmy Rollins of the Philadelphia Phillies was on the preview cover and they got swept by the Rockies.
It’s not like the Diamondbacks really need any extra help, but this cover curse goes way back.
The Denver Post had a few great quotes on the curse from the Colorado locker room.
As is customary in the Rockies clubhouse, Francis took heat for his SI cover shot, especially from rookie shortstop Troy Tulowitzki.
“Tulo told me about it and he’s got the picture above his locker already,” Francis said. “Tulo says we have no shot now.
How will Francis break the curse?
Francis said, “Pitch well.”
Good luck. He faces Brandon Webb tomorrow night, who out-dueled him the last time Arizona beat the Rockies.

Long live the curse!
Go D-backs!
I think with the past 17 out of 18 wins that they will keep powering till they reach the goal of winning it all.
I think the Dbacks will prevail like they have all season, and surprise everyone…
(I hope)
Tough matchup with the way the Rockies have been playing, but we beat them with Webb to clinch and could have beat them the last game of the season if we weren’t using Nippert.
Not worried about the team. They will battle and just hope they don’t pull an A-Rod.
Right now ESPN has a poll on who will win the world series. We have a whopping 5% of the vote, a whole 5%. Good, just the way we like it. Ignore us until we win it all. BoSox have 45% while the Rockies get 23 and the Indians get 25. Even within our own state we only get 55%.
5% is all? and Rockies get 23%?
That’s fine with me…I think no one picked us to beat the Cubs.
