The Friday “TGIF” Question

Date September 27, 2007 by Mike Olbinski

Everyone loves to answer a question. Especially when it’s about themselves. What’s your favorite movie? Favorite TV show? Favorite salad dressing? Favorite Dennis Green meltdown?

So every Friday we’re going to toss some kind of question at you that just demands to be answered. Don’t be afraid of the Friday TGIF Question! It will challenge your mind and your courage. Your stamina and your…okay, it really wont do any of that.

But it will be fun.

So the first TGIF question is this:

What’s your favorite thing to eat on Sunday’s during the NFL season?

Four Peaks KiltlifterFor me personally, I love a good beer brat, boiled in a fresh bottle of Fat Tire, with holes in the brat to let the beer get soaked right in. Then you grill it and slap it on a bun. Now, I’m a minimalist when it comes to my food, and so I put on some mayo and eat that puppy as is.

Some might cringe at the idea of mayo on a brat, but a buddy told me to try it once and I haven’t looked back.

I then wash it down with an ice cold bottle of Four Peaks Kiltlifter, the best local Arizona brewed beer in the state. If you haven’t tried it, you haven’t experienced Arizona.

So what about you? What are your Sunday traditions? Whether you stay at home and veg in front of the glorious NFL Sunday ticket, or tailgate right at the stadium, there is something you just have to have on Sundays.

I don’t really have a tradition of a certain food, but some of my fav’s would be:

brats (obv), buffalo wings that have been cooked normal and then grilled a bit with the sauce on, jalapeno poppers or maybe ABTs, chicken strips…

nothing too out of the ordinary I guess

Never thought of mayo on a brat before. I’m pretty standard with a good ground mustard and kraut and beer stewed onions. Maybe I’ll give the mayo a try.

ABT’s?

Wings sound good…

ABT’s are jalapenos that have been stuffed with cheese, cream cheese, or both, some kind of meat, and then wrapped in bacon and cooked. I’ve seen them grilled or smoked. ABT is short for Atomic Buffalo Turd. Who came up with that I have no idea, but they’re really good eats. I’ve seen the recipe in a couple different places and made them for the first time over the summer. I make them everytime I use my smoker now.

I grill while tailgating. I ususally sautee mushrooms and onions and make burgers.

Buffalo Chicken sandwich has become one of our favorite tailgate meals. You take a chicken breast and pound it flat, season with chili powder, garlic, salt & pepper then marinate it overnight in wing sauce. Grill them up with a slice of provalone cheese and serve on hamburger buns with lettuce, tomato and blue cheese dressing. Great with a cold Kiltlifter (Gotta Drink Local Baby!)
