Quarterback controversy?
September 24, 2007 by Mike Olbinski
Kurt Warner saved the game on Sunday, even if the Cardinals ended up losing. He ended the game with a passer rating of over 150 and his arm looked electric. He was clearly responsible for Arizona coming back from 23-6 and tying the score.
What does that mean for next week though? Pittsburgh comes to town, a team that is probably better than Baltimore. They could be the toughest opponent we face all year.
Can you put Matt Leinart back out there? Would not starting damage his confidence?
What do you guys think? Who would you start next week?
I added a poll about this topic, but I also want to here your opinions and thoughts. What do you do against Pittsburgh?

First of all, If I were Whiz I would announce the starter as a game time decision. Let the Steeleres prepare for both QB’s.
I think letting Matt start is okay but with a short leash. It’s not Matts feelings I’m worried about. But what would happen to the mindset of this team if Warner goes out and is knocked out in the middle of the 1st quarter?
Starting Leinart is a win win situation. We have seen him perform before. We know what he is capable of. If he goes out there and lights it up we are all the more well off. If he looks tenative or confused then we yank him and insert Warner. We don’t have to wait until we are down 20 pts. to make a move . Whiz will know within 1 or 2 series.
Maybe what happened Sunday will spark a fire under Matt. He has looked very hesitant all year long with no confidence. Warner was zipping the ball to the receivers while Matt looked like he was trying not to thow an INT.
Whis said that Warner had more success because he was running a spread offense. Well, why wasn’t Matt running the same spread offense??? Maybe a two QB system is what we need. Shake things up a little. Nobody has said it can’t work. We get the best of both worlds. Every once in a while we throw Warner in there for a no-huddle drive and then put Matt back in the next, keep the D on their heels.
I hope Matt starts throwing the ball more confidently. He was throwing short passes all day long which is why we struggled. And what happened to Edge? He runs for a 27 yard gain and then disappears? I don’t know if I like Whis’ play calling right now. We’ll have to see what he does this Sunday. This Sunday is a game we need to win. The Seahawks and Niners play eachother this weekend so one of them will be 3-1 and we can’t afford to go down 2 games.
My first choice is to start Warner. Matt is confused and needs more time to learn the offense. Matt is the future but allowing him to start when he is not ready is hurting him and the rest of the team. I really can’t believe this is a question. You start the best players, not who is going to be the best player in five years. I guess Whiz has decided to start Matt. Hopefully he will have a short leash or he will play great and make us all look like idiots.
When you’re down 20-3 at halftime against a good team like the Ravens the only chance to get back in the game was to throw the ball. That’s why James had 10 carries. Given the circumstances this team plyed well. Whiz’s play calling was outstanding. This team is only getting better.
Well, opening the offense with Warner was the right call by Whis, but it even goes back to last week when we were up 17-0 and suddenly we went stale on offense. I just wish he was more aggressive and instead of playing to keep a lead, he plays to blow the other team out.
Now that we do have working O-line, it seems like Warner is the more talented person for this offense. However, Matt is the future of the team and is being paid to be the future of the team. I’m sure the Whiz is feeling pressure from the front office to operate day-to-day as if Matt is the main guy. But when it’s game time, nobody is gonna stop him from pulling Matt after a few bad possessions and throwing Warner in.
Best case scenario would be that Matt simply gets his act together and become a solid QB, he has just looked very timid thus far.
