Diamondbacks clinch the post-season
September 28, 2007 by Mike Olbinski

Jose Valverde made things interesting as usual, but his 47th save not only granted Brandon Webb his 18th win of the season, but also the more important playoff berth. Arizona beat the Colorado Rockies 4-2 in a nail-biting, nerve-wracking contest.
The New York Mets lost to the Florida Marlins 7-4, which was the clincher for Arizona.
The Dbacks had no idea, as the wonderful scoreboard attendants in Colorado didn’t put up the final score until after the game was over. It took Bob Melvin to run out and tell his team once the third out happened for them to realize what had just happened.
A gutsy performance by Webb, a two-run homer by Conor Jackson and a nice finish for Valverde. What more can you ask from these guys who just keep winning despite the odds.
Congratulation to the Dbacks and Bob Melvin. He just locked up the Manager of the Year award.

Good job D-Backs! That was the most thrilling game I’ve seen in a long time. My stomach was churning every time the Rockies came to the plate. B. Webb stepped up and pitched the game of his life. Stephen Drew, I take back everything bad I ever said about you. Your defense (and offense) saved this game. Way to go guys!
Yeah, my nerves were going crazy, my stomach lurching…and leave it to Papa to make it all so dramatic.
Now let’s win the division!
