ASU Ranked Again

Date September 23, 2007 by Nasser Kompani

With the comeback victory against Oregon State last night, the Sun Devils were voted into the twenty-third spot in the AP poll and are tied with Purdue for #25 in the USA Today Coach’s Poll. They are also #23 in the Harris Interactive poll.

The game started off with a safety for Oregon State and soon after it was a 19-0 deficit for the Devils. It was looking grim. Oregon State’s great run defense was holding Ryan Torain to under three yards per carry at one point, but fortunately, Rudy Carpenter stepped up big with 361 yards and 4 TD’s on 69 percent passing. Mike Jones had another huge game and Torain did make up for the bad running game with two touchdown receptions.

The big story was the secondary. They finally showed up, intercepting Canfield three times (Nolan 2, Tryon) and not allowing Oregon State to do much at all after the first quarter. Linebacker, Robert James, added two more interceptions and the Sun Devils outscored the Beavers 44-13 the rest of the way. It’s a shame that the first Pac-10 game was not televised.
