Is it finally over?
August 15, 2007 by Mike Olbinski
Okay, when Nasser wrote a blog where he mentioned that Byung-Hyun Kim was back with the Diamondback, I was was “huh?”
But I guess it was true. Because he pitched last night. And boy did he ever pitch.
Too bad it was only 17 pitches and a single out. The Dbacks ended up getting routed 14-5.
Why is he here again? After all the trauma he caused us during the World Series…after being one of the most nail-biting-inducing pitchers in recent history…why did we bring him back? We have this nice, young, fresh team, who are winning games. I have great idea! Let’s regurgitate some old, painful memories.
Was there really no other pitcher out there? I’d even take a worse one at this point. I heard this morning that he got booed at Chase Field the last time he pitched there.
After last night, let’s hope that was the final time we see him in a Dbacks uniform.

Don’t take this the wrong way and I can certainly appreciate your putting the work in to put something on the front page. But I think your content is more apt for threads rather then articles leading the forums. I know its not the busiest sports time of the year but some of these articles are kind of becoming rants and even coming across as misinformed. I don’t mean this in any kind of rude way but rather as I love this site and want it to be its best. I think your opinions are worthy of threads but not so much front page stuff.
I appreciate the feedback.
A blog site isn’t about just news or top stories…it’s about opinions and ramblings…which are like posts on a forum I guess.
Two more things…this was an opinion piece, I hardly had anything in there that could be ‘misinformed’ at all…and secondly, one blog that is a semi-rant doesn’t suddenly turn them all into that. The next 5-6 blogs are nothing but regular posts?
Just at a loss I guess. Are you a BK fan?
No not at all. In fact I actually went to the game last night and was witness to that shellacking. BK made me look very bad but i had good seats so I wasn’t too worried about the taunting. BK is definitely bad but calling for his head seems kinda extreme, especially not in the thread format. To me IMHO it seems you have a heavy understanding of basketball but maybe kind of slow on the baseball uptake. Which isn’t bad but at the same time maybe we should let the fanatics in the baseball forum handle those articles.
Anyway maybe I should just shut my pie hole and write my own piece if I am going to be somewhat critical. My point was just that I think these “opinions” are better served in threads. Thats all. Posts like Walter’s or Skorrp’s are the kind of things I am looking for in front page article. But I digress. You seem like a nice enough guy and you have every right to post where you like.
The misinformed comment I made was more about the Reggie Miller blog. Innocuous rumor comments are great for threads. Not so much on the main page.
It’s a blog not AZCentral…and this site is more than just about the forums. What I think some people have a hard time with is that there are people who don’t read forums, nor like them, but they love reading articles, be it rumors that aren’t 100% true, opinion pieces calling for pitcher’s heads, etc. And
Also, as far as my baseball uptake being slow…my opinion is based solely off the fact that I was watching the World Series when he almost blew it for us and it gave me nightmares forever, so seeing him back here kind of sucks for me as a fan.
No worries bud. Just an opinion.
Heard BK was back last week, so it was just a matter of time until he blew up on the mound…and not in a good way. Most sports fans I’ve either read or heard all cringed at the idea of BK coming back as we’re all still haunted by the ghost of World Series past and how close we came to losing what should have been a 4-1 or 4-2 series.
After last nite, let’s hope d-backs management does the prudent thing and waive BK before he can do more damage. The d-backs are primed to make a playoff run either as divisional winner or wild card. I know they need help, but I’d sooner take my chances with the current rotation than with BK.
A brief note to Mr. AZ Finest; this is a sports blog, not forum. It’s read and supported by Phx sports fans. You can argue that we may or may not have an understanding of a certain sport, but this is certainly the venue for spirited discussion. As to calling for BK’s head, I don’t want his head, I’d rather him go pitch for the Padres or Dodgers, he can help the d-backs a lot more that way than pitching for them. IMHO
Maybe this blog helped

This just in at espn.com….
Arizona parted ways with Byung-Hyun Kim on Wednesday following two awful starts by the right-hander since he was acquired by the Diamondbacks.
Kim was designated for assignment, general manager Josh Byrnes said, meaning the team has 10 days to trade him or release him on waivers.
The former Diamondbacks’ closer lasted just 17 pitches in Arizona’s 14-5 loss at Florida on Tuesday night. He retired one batter and allowed four runs, three earned, to boost his ERA in two starts with the Diamondbacks to 23.62.
The Diamondbacks claimed Kim off waivers from Florida with the hope of making him the No. 5 starter in the rotation.
“It just didn’t work out,” Byrnes said.
Other roster moves were planned later in the day, he said.
….so long BK and good riddance:
I understand what arizona’s finest is trying to say, that in his view some stories on a blog may not interest some people and if that’s the case they should go somewhere else. However, I think that you’re hoping to see the blog page as the ‘primary’ news, and the forum more ’secondary’ news. They’re 2 different things though.
A forum is a forum, anybody can say whatever… we know what a forum is. Your typical blog is a single author, or a group of authors, talking about whatever they want and people comment off of them. Kinda like talk radio. The cool thing is that people can choose whether they like the authors on this blog or not. It all hinges on the authors.
For the record, I’m not going to say which is better, blog or forum. Very different from each other to really compare.
