LeBron saves me

Date June 3, 2007 by Mike Olbinski

Bitterness only lasts so long. Sometimes, it almost takes energy to stay upset at something. Or someone.

Yet when the Suns lost to the Spurs, I was planning on being bitter for a long time. I was going to ignore the rest of the playoffs, because none of it mattered anymore. It was tainted and wrong.

But something happened. I was watching something on Tivo and when it was over, my TV was on ESPN and the Cavaliers were in overtime against the Pistons. LeBron James had scored something sick like the last 20 points for Cleveland.

It was magical. He put up 48 points that night. Watching him completely make anything from anywhere was unbelievable. He put the entire Cavs team on his shoulders and went on to win the game for them. On the road, in Detroit.

My basketball juices started flowing again. This is why I love the NBA and hoops in general. It’s so exciting to see performances like this. LeBron is growing up and turning out to be possibly better than all the hype from his high school days.

Thanks LeBron for bringing me back. I love this game.

And then they go and win the series at home the next night with a 2nd round player named Boobie Gibson nailing every three pointer he shot. No one knew the guy before a week ago. Now everyone does.

This is why basketball is great.

I feel bad though, because I’m leaving many of my fellow Suns fans behind. There are still those who wont watch the playoffs and who still have “Spurs suck” in their forum signatures.

All I an do is say I’m sorry. I’m moving on.

And sadly, it gets worse. While I want to cheer for the Cavs, I can’t find it in my heart to want another Eastern team to win the championship after another dominating season by the West. How can the West be so great and then let an East team win it all?

Still…I’m flip-flopping. I likely will end up pulling for Cleveland afterall…and possibly stay in the good graces of my Suns brethren.

Either way…basketball is back. For me. I just hope the Finals turns into a magical 7-game series. How great would that be?

Amen, brother. It’s important the Spurs win the whole thin and have a tainted title.

This will last for me until the Spurs go up 2-0 or 3-0. The closer the Spurs get the more painful the reminder becomes. I want to move on but I don’t think anybody really can with the Spurs up in your face. Sorry but if that is the NBA I missing out on. Good riddance.

Get over it already. The S0ns blow and always will. You do, however, lead the league in moral victories and ratings.

When those trophies come in, lemme know so I can congratulate you.
