Kobe in purple?

Date May 30, 2007 by Mike Olbinski

Fraking Bill Simmons.

Have you ever read this guy? He’s a brilliant writer for ESPN.com. He’s funny, intelligent and just a bit weird, which makes a combination that is deadly fun to read.

With Kobe just outright telling Steven A. Smith that he wants a trade, Simmons quickly grabbed his pen and came up with seven possible trades and counted down to the top one.

Kobe to the Suns.

The more detailed version is Kobe and Vladimir Radmanovic for Shawn Marion, Leandro Barbosa, Marcus Banks and our pick next year via Atlanta.

Sounds bad at first, then you look at the starting lineup: Nash, Kobe, Diaw, Bell and Amare. Wow.

So now I have my hopes up. I want something to happen this offseason that blows me away. Someone on our forums said they would hate to part with Marion. I’m at the point where I don’t care much about things other than a championship.

Losing Barbosa would be the biggest travesty I think, but it’s still one I would make if we could win that big game.

Mark Ivaroni was just announced as being the next Memphis head coach. Things are already changing. I have a feeling there will be more, but nothing could live up to what Simmons put in my head today.

I honestly don’t think you could stop that starting five.

What do you guys think? A good trade? Would you part with Marion?

Zing! I’m with you all the way Mike. As soon as I saw the Steven A. Smith interview, bells went off in my head.

We need a scorer, bad! I’m all for packing Marions crap up and shipping his whiney butt out of town. Barbosa on the other hand I would be a bit reluctant to lose.
