Here we go

Date May 18, 2007 by Mike Olbinski

Do or die. Win or go home.

The old sports cliche seems to go “This game is the biggest game of our lives.”

Well tonight, for the Suns, this IS the biggest game of their lives. If they win, they can force a Game 7 at home on Sunday and be that much closer to an NBA Championship.

Can they win? As they’ve proven in the last two games, they can beat the Spurs on the road and then can almost beat them at home with two top players missing. The Spurs have to be a little unsure of themselves right now. A made three or two and the Suns would be the ones up 3-2 right now.

The Suns have confidence and pride. They have played so focused this series, unlike against the Lakers in the First Round, or even leading back to last year. They are determined and driven.

Amare and Boris will have super-fresh legs. That could be a big advantage.

Tonight will be another one of those gut checks. This is where the Suns prove to everyone that they are a good, if not great time. Win tonight and the Spurs will be on their heels.

I think they can do it. They’ve gone through too much this series for them not to win Game 6. The last three years have been a brutal learning process for the Suns, who always seem to be at a disadvantage in the playoffs. Be it injuries or suspensions, they’ve gotten unlucky. And this series has been almost as unlucky as you can get.

Yet I see something in their eyes right now. They aren’t afraid of the Spurs anymore. That road block has been cleared. Destroyed.

Now it’s just about playing basketball and executing.

And staying out of foul trouble. That’s for you Amare. You know you have to be huge tonight. We need you on the court.

This is the biggest game of their lives. And mine, as a fan. It’s 6:35am and I’m already nervous about the game which is 12 hours away.

You have more faith than I do. If Barbosa had shown any guts at all in this series, we’d have won another game. He’s still too soft.

Barbosa and Stoudemire both having a good game tonight would give us a chance, just a chance, mind you, at winning game 6 in San Antonio.

I can’t wait. Bring it on.
